My daily uniform is a black or gray t-shirt and jeans with a sweatshirt or sweater depending on the weather.
I’m looking online at Eddie Baur and Land’s End and am not impressed. I own some Eddie Baur shirts that are good, but quality seems to have gone down the past few years, and most stuff is made in China. Also, shortish T-shirts are OK for summer, when I don’t wear anything over them and thus don’t tuck them into my pants. But in winter, most standard T-shirts are too short for me (they pull out of the pants, y’know?!).
So, fashion mavens, I’d appreciate it if you introduced me to some cool new clothing.
My spec:
•Available in black, gray, charcoal gray, etc.
•Tall size = long and not blousey
•High-quality
•Preferably made in USA or Europe
I can’t help you, but wanted to commiserate. I tuck in all my shirts, including tee shirts, and nearly always have problems with length. Even not tucked in, all shirts seem designed to show your belly if you raise your arms up. Getting larger shirts doesn’t seem to work, either. I just end up floating in a short but w i d e swath of fabric, belly showing at the slightest provocation. I guess longer shirts aye out of vogue? Annoying!
Writing this did jog my memory. I believe my father used to get shirts out of a big and tall catalog for this very reason. It may have been JC Penney, but I’m not sure. Good luck!
I don’t know where LLBean gets their shirts, but they have nice stuff. I bought 2 of their long sleeved XLT tees, and like them so much I went back and ordered 2 more.
My experience too, with a caveat: follow the care instructions. I’ve had some talls (interlocked mock necks) get short from drying them in a hot dryer.
I wear coveralls over a t-shirt at work, so I’m picky about my t-shirts, too. I like Dickies single pocket T- shirts. They’re thicker than a standard undershirt - good for sweat absorption in summer and warm in winter. They’re cheap and available everywhere. You can get two for $11 at Wal-Mart. The neck doesn’t stretch out and get that 70’s porn star sag at the end of the day and they’re made in the USA. They’re cut loose, not like a form-fitting undershirt. I usually wear them around the house with shorts. Several of them have been through over a hundred washes and are still holding up strong.
If your other choices don’t work out, give them a try.
