American version of the Korean "I Can See Your Voice" coming...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

In before the “You don’t know if it will be good until you see!” and “It’s not that bad, it’s entertaining!” posts.

*I Can See Your Voice * is a Korean reality show (which has spawned versions in other Asian countries) in which the contestants begin by “lip syncing” side by side on a split screen with someone else who may be the real singer.

The rules changed over the seasons, but basically the celebrity judges guess who’s the real singer(s) and who’s tone deaf based on what they reveal about themselves. Sometimes the once chosen performs by themself(selves) and sometimes if the guests are music artists, they get to perform with them. While it’s funny when the person is chosen, there have been some amazing performances by non-professional singers.

I don’t know how, but I’m 100% sure the American version will ruin the drams and buildup to the final singer, probably by over camping it up!

I know it’s not to everyone’s tastes, but here’s two of the greatest performances on the show that will never be matched on the American version:

If you read this synopsis of what the song and story (Seo Pyun Jae) is about and don’t tear up, you have no heart or soul! :dubious:

for all of you wondering, this is from the musical SeoPyunJae. It is about a girl (SongHwa) who gets trained by her father to sing pansori. The father, in order to deepen her angst so that it will enrich and deepen her sound, blinds her by giving her medicine telling her it’s for her health. This piece is called ‘Resentment’ in which she realizes what her father has done to her and resents him with anguish. At one point, she says ‘why don’t you just kill me? Just kill me instead!’"

The high notes in this song are extremely difficult, especially the one at 1:51, which is why everyone is laughing, but his little Pokemon girl hit them.

I thought ‘The Masked Singer’ was the American adaptation. Are you saying there’s another one coming?

*Masked Singer *- loosely based on King of Mask Singer, they both wore costumes and are celebrities, both singers and those not known for their singing abilities. But that’s where the similarity ends. Contestants don’t get to continue on until the end, instead they have to win three rounds (the first singing a duet with another contestant, then singing different songs against other contestants in the second and third rounds) before they face the reigning King or Queen. If they win, they become the new King of Mask Singer.

*I Can See Your Voice * are amateurs or lesser known celebrities who “lip sync” in the first round and the judges choose who is really a singer based on appearance and a Q&A session, until only one contestant is left in the final round. Everyone, tone deaf or not, gets to perform when eliminated. Sometimes there’s more than one singer, making the judges choice more difficult.
