I’m so thankful there are people like angrydonkey to set all us lazy, uncaring, white, fat, suit-wearing dopers straight.
We are here to fight ignorance, after all.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
Now, that is funny.
Maybe you should eat lunch somewhere else.
Mods, I just pasted Sampiro’s line. I don’t know why it is now an actual email address.
Sigh. I just love indignant outrage from people who don’t know the difference between their butt and a burnt biscuit on the topic they are outraged about. But, hey - why let a few facts get in the way of a chance to dump on America?
First off, America did not “privatize the evacuation”. The city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana did. The US government had nothing to do with it. Second off, whether they were poor or not, there was affordable public transportation available out of New Orleans. As soon as there was any indication that the hurricane might hit, they could have been on it. They chose not to.
That’s bullshit. Nobody is complaining about folks getting essentials of life. What they are complaining about is people getting plasma TVs and crackheads shooting at anything that moves. And guess what? We’re still trying to help them.
Now that last sentence really reveals the total depth and width of your complete ignorance. Ignorance like that almost defies description. Ignorance like that could be used to drain the streets of New Orleans in 12 hours because it sucks so strongly.
Could it have been handled better? You bet. It should have. It wasn’t. Deal with it. And guess what? We are dealing with it. We are doing the best that we can under the circumstances. That is why we go on with our most assuredly unpathetic and trite lives. We aren’t oblivious to the suffering, we’re helping to relieve it.
Which is far, far more than you have done with your totally fucked-up Dump-On-America-At-All-Costs diatribe. So on behalf of the millions and millions of Americans just like me who go to work every day and who are now donating every spare penny that we have and every piece of clothing and anything else that we can to the refugees, I’d like to suggest that you stick your head back up your ass and keep it there.
:wally
I thought the OP was going to be more lighthearted, turns out I mistakenly read the user name as happydonkey.
I thought the key problem wasn’t easily predicted: the levies broke. Was that expected?
Well played 'ol boy.
Ding, ding, ding!
**Harborwolf ** called it.
got to say though FinnAgain , nice pic.
As for OP, you’re right. You are the only one who cares about this tragedy. All those fat lazy people obviously did nothing to help.
Now, that’s simply not true.
I’d also be okay if there were thousands of hispanics dying in the street.
You have to uncheck the box that says “automatically parse links in text”. No biggie, though.
Hey Giraffe. Since you’re doing a little housekeeping. Cleanup on aisle three.
Could that be because the best thing that most of us can do is to donate money to relief efforts, and donating money online doesn’t take that long, and tends to happen in non-public places? Somebody is certainly donating money to relief efforts.
Touched a nerve, did I? Any nation that lets its weakest die like animals in the street and then devotes all its energies to ducking responsibility and passing blame is clearly corrupt and stagnant.
For me, Katrina is the end of any sense of duty I have to America. The word itself is just a cheap marketing tool used by charletans to sell a immoral war (one the US will never win, btw). When it is all over, you same idiots will ask “why aren’t the Iraqis grateful?”
You should be ashamed, instead you are just stupid
Hee haw right back atcha. Did you absorb any of the replies in this thread?
If you’re not one of the people referenced in the OP, I don’t quite understand the the virulent responses. If you are, suck it up-- truth hurts. If you, OTOH, don’t belong to said broad brush, why not simply agree with the message and get your nation back?
The truth of the matter is that America’s ugly yet very real underbelly of classism/racism has, quite literally, been coming to the surface in the grotesque shape of the myriad of dead bodies floating about in New Orlean’s tragically mismanaged catastrophe.
Compassionate Conservatism – at its best when it doesn’t negatively affect Compassionate Conservatives. As I am sure you’re all aware, they’re mighty compassionate as long as their wallets and blood are not involved.
After all, tax-cuts and illegitimate wars for resources and power, are but a small price to pay to maintain the status-quo – seeing as it has, been working so well…for them.
Caveat emptor: so long as you’re white and/or wealthy and, by default, part of Privileged America. As has been proven in the past five years you can always Bushit away the fact-based community and their wimpy “leaders.”
Good luck with that plan.
angrydonkey, welcome to the SDMB. Trust you’ll stick around.
Of course, keep in mind that all Spaniards are cowards.
Oh, I’m not talking about you…
Well angrydonkey, gimmie a mailing address for you. I’ll have a one way ticket to say, Russia or Germany or France for you. You can be dutiful over there.
Oh, and FYI (from the guy who spent 15 months in Iraq,) for the most part the Iraqi’s ARE grateful to us. Ever been there, or are you still using the big brush?
No doubt a high percentage of us are, but there’s also the fact that a majority of us had the balls/ovaries to get rid our own Bush’s substitute fellator-in-chief – just in case Blair’s throat needed a break.
Maybe, just maybe, as high and mighty as so many of you are and as unbecoming as us poor Spaniards are by comparison, there’s a lesson to be learned there somewhere.
Just sayin’ that’s all.
~Red. Courageous enough to cast my ballot for the PSOE.
