America's Army Obstacle Course

So, a week ago, I downloaded the America’s Army computer game. Before I can go online and “participate in unit events,” I must complete the training for my character. The marksmanship event was, IMHO, easy. What’s got me stumped, though, is the Obstacle Course. There’s a practice run, which I have no problem with. Then a timed run (1.5 minutes). The instructions on the screen say, “Look back and climb down” for part of the course, but that doesn’t seem to work.

What am I doing wrong? Or more to the point: What should I do right to pass the obstacles?

Your first obstacle? Sneak outta MPSIMS and invade Cafe Society. Good luck, soldier.

Aaaah, a fine point of the Army you’ve just discovered for yourself: instructions that rarely work.

You should have downloaded the Air Force game.

Tripler
One happy “smurf”.

Turn completely around and face the way you came, then back into the ladder and keep backing (default key S) until you descend and disengage. Then you can turn around and continue to the next obstacle.

It’s one of the game’s major design weaknesses, I’ve found, since you can’t see the ladder as you back into it. On the obstacle course, the ladders are wide but in the game, they’re narrow. If you’re not centered, it’s rather easy to miss and fall.

Outstanding.

Instructions? You expect instruction from a Drill Sergeant? Just kidding.

Thanks to Bryan’s cool information, I made it through the obstacle course. Sadly, it took me four times to get fast enough. Making it through the US weapons training event took a leap of faith that going to the next station (without any instructions to do so) was the required course of action.

What stinks is that the few instructions there are for the MOUT (Shootout) don’t work. Anyone know what the idea is to complete that section?

You mean the initial MOUT when you shoot cutouts or the one where you fight other trainees?

Cutouts.

I qualified on an earlier version when the MOUT training was a lot easier. I think you’re just going to have to run in and shoot and move move move soldier.

I still haven’t passed the escape and evasion course.

Watch it, Zoomie.

Maybe that’s the whole plan, Bryan Ekers. You get so fed up with the simulation that you enlist and go do some real butt-kicking!
