Threadshitting
What, Cruz increasing his celebrity status not acceptable to you?
Amazing thread and great call by the OP.
Trump has proven all doubters wrong so far. My money and vote is with Hillary, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Trump won the election.
I actually don’t think he will be as outrageous as POTUS as he sounds (I think he would work with Democrats, and is secretly pro-choice and all that), but wonder what will happen when the wall doesn’t get built, millions of Latin Americans don’t get deported, we don’t “win” vs China, he doesn’t tear up the Iran deal, and can’t combat the recession that seems to hit this country when the last digit of the year turns “1” . . . .ie 2021 . . . … Trump could go down in flames as one of the most hated Presidents in history by not only haters but supporters.
If elected, his ass better be able to cash the checks his big mouth writes.
Hillary should beat Trump, but it’s entirely within the realm of possibility that Trump could somehow pull off the win.
The OP basically nailed it: American voters are stupid. And we’re getting dumber all the time. And they’re stupid enough to be sucked into what has become an interactive political reality television show, in which they are a powerful audience that has the power to influence the season finale. There’s something indescribably intoxicating about that. This probably doesn’t apply for most voters who are truly political, but it could definitely be a factor for a chunk of the electorate that votes for the first time.
In my mind, that’s how the election will be decided. If loads of new voters show up at the polls, this could actually end up hurting democrats. I wonder how many republicans will show up at the polls. I suspect many will sit this one out, but you never know. Maybe you have enough Clinton-hating republicans who show up just to vote against her, and maybe enough noobs show up at the polls just to participate in the political melodrama.
And the nomination is Trump’s.
We live in silly times, and we are going to elect a silly president. Or, I should say we’re going to elect a president for silly reasons. I happen to agree with Trump on most issues but issues have little to do with this election.
I’m also aware that next time, there could be a “Liberal Trump”. That candidate will campaign on things like, a $10,000 stimulus payment to every American, free houses for teachers, and forgiveness of all student loan debt. But the campaign events would be like the Daily Show back when it was funny.
Trump has positions to agree with? Can you name three?
Something or other about lusting for his daughter.
The wall just got ten feet higher.
Here is a question I have been wondering about for a while:
When was the last time that one of the major political parties in the US nominated a candidate for the Presidency who was neither a politician (i.e., never elected to public office) nor a general?
Note that I am asking specifically about major party nominees, not fringe party candidates or people who fail to achieve their party’s nomination.
Does anyone know?
I believe it was Wendell Willkie, the Republican who lost to FDR in 1940. (Unlike Trump, Willkie had served in the military; he just hadn’t made it to General.)
Just dropping by to note that more than one poll currently shows Trump leading Clinton in the general.
…and give yourself a shameless bump instead of commenting in any of the several other threads where this has already been mentioned. Move along, nothing to see here.
After a rough summer, Trump is again closing in on Hillary in the polls.
You’d think the Rachel Maddows of the world would be happy because of all the Republican candidates, Trump was the one who deposited a plenteous, steaming load of poop on the Bush GOP legacy. But the night of the Mexico visit she was incoherent, nearly in tears.
So he dumped a plenteous (?) steaming load of poop on a pre-existing plenteous, steaming load of poop?
Game over, folks. Thanks for playing.
Who’ll run against him in 2020? Kanye? Jon Stewart? It’s never too early to start thinking about it.
All hail Hyperelastic! Seriously, mad props.

Credit where it’s due. Now, give me lottery numbers.
