America's Got Talent [season 8 thread]

On this I agree!

No secret I thought most of the acts this year sucked turkeys…but Kenichi was an original, amazing talent that got better and better each week and he fully deserved to win.

Thank the gods for DVR - sitting through that two hour nonsense would have been sheer agony. Fast forwarded to the last five minutes and that was ample.

And for the comedian? Come on - what could be better for his act than to riff on winning second place? That is comedy gold! He should be thanking his lucky stars he DIDN’T win! He can milk this story for the rest of his life.

Yeah, I ignored most of the show myself. It was fine as background noise.

If he can then good luck to him.

I managed to watch the finale last night. A lot of it spent in fast forward. Especially the country duet. Gah. And Kenichi doing a “duet” by dancing to the opera singers?

I’m glad Kenichi won. He deserved to win for his truly original act and the depth of skill required for his efforts. I was surprised that Forte wasn’t rated more highly. I guess a comedian and a country act are more popular than opera.

Of course, Collins Key just put a lie to the “can’t do the same magic trick twice” by repeating the page from a book trick he did before.

I have a question: is there anyone out there who was impressed by the trick the first time and then read descriptions here of how parts were done, that watched this time with different eyes? Did it help or hurt your appreciation? I thought he did another fine presentation. Did anyone else catch the force he used?

But you seem to think he ended up with two cards glued together. He didn’t. He ended up with one card that had two faces. He had them sign “two different cards chosen at random” and then “fused the two cards together”. That was the trick, not taking two cards and quickly gluing them together.

But they weren’t doing opera, they were singing operetically and after a while it’s like listening to an Il Devo cd.

They should have sung an actual opera aria. For example, everyone does Nessun Dorma but what about three guys singing it. Could you imagine all of them hitting “Vincero!” together. Or something from La Boheme or the Magic Flute?

Singing an actual opera wouldn’t have made a difference for me. I’m simply looking at how they’ve been perceived and received throughout the show. They’ve been pegging the number one slot on their competition nights, to my utter amazement.

Il Devo, isn’t that the group that came out singing for Kenichi’s “duet”?
