America's Got Talent 2017

Are the judges on crack? How the heck did they put Mirror Image through? I mean yeah ok they’re kind of goofy fun but there were other acts that were MUCH better.

I’m not happy about this.

Good season so far though. I’m looking forward to the live shows and I can really start to discuss the different acts and how much Mirror Image shouldn’t be there.

This show is flawed and isn’t fair to all talents. I’ve been working on a Youtube video for over two years that shows a lot of talent and skill. I couldn’t go on the show and just play my Youtube video and just stand there even though what I’ve done is difficult and time consuming.

It has to be some kind of performance where I’m doing something on the stage. And you also have to be able to perform a slightly different performance more than once if you get through.

Watch the Rube Goldberg Honda commercial and the extreme amount of talent that went in to making that. Too bad though it’s a video and can’t be on the show.

That’s a stupid criticism. They aren’t claiming to look for any and all talents whatsoever. They are looking for talents that can make a Stage Show for a Las Vegas act. Your criticism is like complaining that American Idol only highlights singers, and doesn’t allow football players to compete in football.

There’s still a lot of leeway in what they do, much more than just singing shows or dancing shows.

My man Puddles is still in the running, although my neighbor Bello has been eliminated.

Go Puddles!

I have the same complaint that I have every year: when the act is performing, I want to watch the performance. What I don’t want to see is close-ups of the performers face(s), and I especially don’t want to see the judges or the audiences reactions to the performance. I want to see the act!, DAMMIT!.
And while I’m thinking about it, I never want to hear Mel B squeal like a 3-year-old again. Shut that bitch up!
If my wife didn’t like this show I’d have cheerfully stopped watching it years ago.

I do like Puddle though.

I agree, I want to see the act, not reactions to the act.

I am with you 100%. I want to see the talent that America’s Got, not Heidi Klum making binoculars with her hands or Mel B dancing in her seat (or the audience waving their arms slowly back and forth).

But worse than all of this are the cuts to Tyra Banks’ over-the-top reactions, looking at the close-up camera mouthing some stupidity or making a crazy-ass face that screams “Look at me!”.
mmm

I’m trying to decide if I’m sexist, because I find the Tyra reaction shots more annoying than previous years Nick reaction shots. I’m going to say it is because Nick was better at it.

As to the show - I know there wasn’t a lot of talent last night, but they put through both little kid dancing acts? If they had to put one through, I guess the 8/9 yo couple (although they are overly aggressively cute) but I wouldn’t have had either.

I agree that Tyra is super annoying, but so were Nick’s mugging for the camera; show us the performances! Tyra sure is tall!

There’s really no one this year that I’d pay money to see; I’ve seen enough “surprising” singers (sorry Puddles) and precocious kids. The only person I’d like to see is comedian Preacher Lawson; I can see him as the next Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle.

Frankly, I have hardly noticed Tyra. I think that may be deliberate.

I’ve had enough with the singers. Several of the golden buzzers have went to singers and it’s just…boring.

My biggest complaint is: If an act is good enough to garner four (or five) yeses, then they need to play that act in its entirety and not give us some fast forward montage version of it.

I was a little annoyed at first Tyra got the gig, but that being said, she does seem to be rather sweet to the contestants. Especially to the one’s that lose.

Christian Guardino - Decent enough singer, although not really of the style I prefer. Overall, I was pretty bored during his performance.

Artyon & Paige - I enjoyed it. Not my favorite, but they can dance and it was fun. I liked this act better than the Judge’s Cuts.

In the Stairwell - Well, I have a love for acapella so I really enjoyed this. I think they did a great job. I liked the song too.

Singing Trump - No. Just no. He’s pretty funny but that was not anywhere near good enough to move on.

Angelica Hale - Wow. Just wow. How can a 9 year old sing so well??? How!?! Amazing.

Bello Nock - Frack me. Please let this guy go through!!! I like him, I love the act.

Just Jerk Crew - Loved it! So much fun to watch.

Puddles Pity Party - I really enjoyed it. Loved the interpretation. Not sure what Simon was talking about. That being said, I think the red X is going to hurt him just because of the psychology of it. Plus there were other acts that were better.

Preacher Lawson - So funny! Please let him through. Laughed bigly.

Yoli Major - Good singer but I think she loses out to Hale as top singer of the night.

Billy & Emily England - Cool, but I could never watch that for an hour. Just not enough variety in the action. That being said I think they’re in the top half of the acts.

Darci Lynne - Umm yeah. She could win it. Amazing.

Prediction
Angelica Hale
Bello Nock
Just Jerk Crew
Preacher Lawson
Billy & Emily England
Darci Lynne

On the bubble
Puddles Pity Party (Howie and Mel B pick)
Yoli Major (Simon and Heidi pick)

Yoli Major wins the tiebreaker.

What a bunch of talented people.

I don’t worry too much about Puddles. Mike Geier is a wonderful talent and has had a lot of success doing his thing. Any exposure he gets on this show is only going to benefit him. Kind of like Piff the Magic Dragon. I know he won’t be crying too much about not winning.

But Simon was an ass for giving Puddles the buzzer.

So, with 12 acts/seven going on, you could look it as “Which five do you think should go?”

For me, some are obvious.

The Singing Trump. As one of the judges said, the singing wasn’t great, the dancing wasn’t great. I’ll add that the jokes weren’t all that great, which considering the potential…

Artyon & Page. Clearly they’d be the stars of their local dancing school recital. But are there really all that many people who want to watch someone else’s kids dance?

Billy & Emily England. Yeah, what they’re doing is really dangerous. It’s also spinning around and around and around and around with him holding her by various combinations of limbs, with the main point “will he keep from smashing her head on the floor this time?” How many times do you really want to see that?

Belo Nock. He may be a good dare devil, I just personally don’t enjoy daredevil acts very much. Clearly the judges didn’t even think him good enough to put through in the first place. (I suspect he mostly got the reprieve because they wanted more non-singer acts.)
Past that, there are a few acts I positively would enjoy seeing again: Darcy Lynn, Preacher Larsen, Just Jerk, In the Stairwell.

Which leaves four singers (Christian Guarino, Angelica Hale, Puddles Pity Party, Yoli Major) who were all okay to damn good, but I’m not so stunned by any of them that I would think it a travesty if they ended up below the line.

I’m kinda burnt out on the show and quit watching before Judge Cuts. Yeah, there are some interesting and impressive acts, and there are some funny moments, but it begins to feel repetitive to all the previous seasons.

How many dog acts do we need to see with a string of dogs prancing on their back legs? Doing “the wheelbarrow”?

I occasionally enjoy the magic acts, but the judge reactions befuddle me. You would think someone who watches magic acts that much would consider learning something about how they are done, so they wouldn’t constantly be saying “you must really have powers, I don’t know how else you could have done it” to a bog standard mind reading gimmick. Sometimes it takes me a couple of reviews (or several in slow-mo) to see how things are done, but many times I know the essence of the trick even if I miss the move. Yes, there are some I don’t know how they are done, but I know enough about how magic tricks work to either realize the important moment was cut by the camera angle focusing on the judges, or just that there are creative tricks I don’t know how they work, just many of the principles that are at work.

Anyway, I’ve got too much else on DVR to worry about it all.

Darci Lynne could take it all and I would not be disappointed. Some posters have commented about the England’s (skaters) being good but enough already. We were saying the same thing as we watched last night. However, I won’t be floored if they go through. I’m going to take a contrary opinion on Puddles. He has a great voice and I would enjoy him a hell of a lot more without the whole clown persona, just come out and wow me with your voice. His performance last night just didn’t do it for me like some in the past.

I say the same thing all the time when watching the show “Well, there you go. Magic is real.” I obviously don’t think magic is really real, but sometimes some tricks just really impress me. I don’t make any effort to figure out how the tricks and done, and I don’t want to know. In fact, what annoys me most with a magician is when it is absolutely obvious how they did the trick.

Christian Guardino - Very good voice. May have a tough time finding impressive material. I like the kid, hope he does well.

Artyon & Paige - Very skilled, very well rehearsed dancers. They seemed a little bit robotic to me, but perhaps it’s just their age. I think they’ll move on.

In the Stairwell - Boring to me. I think there are a lot of choirs that could do the same thing. Just my personal opinion though, I’m not the best person to rate the act.

Singing Trump - Nothing there. He’s not even a good Trump impersonator. I wonder if he started by impersonating Bush Jr., he looks and sounds a lot more like him.

Angelica Hale - What an incredible voice and presence. I think she’s a top contender.

Bello Nock - Very entertaining. He has to keep topping these performances which will be difficult. Glad he made it back through. I doubt he can win it all but I know he’s been around for a while, I’ve seen him before, hope he gets a lot of exposure out of this.

Just Jerk Crew - Good performance this time. Not my favorite kind of stuff. They have to keep stepping it up to stay in the competition.

Puddles Pity Party - Fantastic talent. He had the audience joining him in song, that’s a sign of a great entertainer. Simon can be a jerk, there was no need to X him even if he didn’t like it that much. He needs some big material to show off that powerful voice. And Heidi should stop being an idiot and asking him to be a happy clown. I hope he keeps going and the songs get bigger.

Preacher Lawson - Funny. A little frantic for my tastes but he’s getting a good response. This competition is tough for comics, hope he does well.

Yoli Major - Weak song last night. I’m not sure she’s ready for this level of competition.

Billy & Emily England - These are the best pair of skating in a circle acrobats I’ve ever seen. I don’t know if that’s enough of an act but it’s great to see them.

Darci Lynne - Great ability for her age. When Terry Fator won the big one he had been practicing for longer than Darci’s been alive. Her singing and puppetry is great, she needs to work on her own character, get a little more expressive during the singing, I know that will be hard to do, if she doesn’t win this she’ll still end up with an entertainment career. She could be the next Hannah Montana, I wonder how that will go when she turns 18.

I think they did pretty good in weeding out the weak acts in the judges rounds this year, the competition will be very tough for everyone. Best chances of taking it all from last night’s contestants are Christian Guardino, Angelica Hale, Puddles, and Darci Lynn. Artyon & Paige wouldn’t surprise me either.
