I agreed with Simon that the votes were all correct (with the possible exception of Bela).
The only two I’m really interested in seeing again are Darcy Lynn and Preacher Lawson.

I would have preferred the dance group over Yoli for the final judge’s pick. She’s good, but there are a lot on good singers in it. I just don’t think she was one of the best.
Brobots & Mandroids - I liked it but I liked Jerk Crew more and they’re gone. I’m not sure if they’ll get through but it certainly wouldn’t disappoint me to see another of their performances.
Celine Tam - She did very well for a 9 yo.
Mirror Image - Please no. Bad singing, poor dancing. I will give the one twin credit for not getting distracted by their mic flailing around. That actually requires some good discipline.
Johnny Manuel - A very very good singer.
Merrick Hanna - I enjoyed it, I think his Judge’s Cut act was a bit better than this round in that I felt like the dance went with the music/story a bit more.
Eric Jones - Well, the act was ruined by Howie, but nothing annoys me more in magic then when the trick is obvious so a big ol’ no for me. I won’t say how the trick is done because I know there are people like me who don’t want to know how tricks work and for future shows I would ask that if anybody is going to post how a trick works could you please put it in a spoiler? Thanks in advance!!
The Masqueraders - Love these guys! A bit ol’ fashioned, but they could make it as a Vegas act or in Branson. I really love their story too.
Light Balance - Ummm yeah. Loved it. Probably just killed Brobots & Mandroids.
Evie Clair - I think she did a great job. None of the singers really blew me away tonight so it’ll be a tough call.
Demian Aditya - Too bad, love this guy’s act. Who know’s maybe he’ll get a sympathy vote?
Pompeyo Family Dogs - I was bored, other than the theme it felt identical to the Judge’s Cut act. But people will love it and they’ll get votes.
Mandy Harvey - Best singer of the night.
Prediction
Johnny Manuel
The Masqueraders
Light Balance
Pompeyo Family Dogs
Mandy Harvey
On the Bubble:
Celine Tam

Evie Clair
Duncan Save:
Celine Tam
Judge’s Pick:
Merrick Hanna
Maybe I was in a bad mood, but I wasn’t really blown away by anyone tonight.
I’m not sure about Damien. Tyra said it was a technical difficulty, but whose fault? If some stagehand for the show unplugged something he shouldn’t, something like that, the guy deserves another go. But if his own equipment just failed… shame, but that’s not really different than a dancer tripping over his own feet or any other self caused failure.
Yeah I tend to agree. There were plenty of acts I enjoyed but nobody who I thought could win it all.
Yeah, nothing there I really want to see again (I will confess I don’t pay much attention to the singers).
I agree completely with this and I don’t think you were in a bad mood, overall I thought the first week of live shows was better. I’m also wondering if I’m the only one that does not want Merrick to go through. I think he will but I am not even slightly into his act and other than the background changes, which I did enjoy last night, it seems like the dancing/acting is all the same. I’m sure I’m in the minority but I really don’t like his act.
Entertainment is subjective. There’s been plenty of acts through the history of the show that I didn’t enjoy that people loved and vice versa.
Well, I’m not sure about the acts last night but I certainly would pay to see Circus 1903.
If this is truly AGT, why do we have acts from Korea and GB on the show? Especially the skating siblings who have been on a couple of European versions of the GT franchise.
Did the technical glitch in the escape artist’s bit reveal how he did it? I fast-forwarded through that bit because watching failures live on TV makes me physically uncomfortable. I know (or I’m pretty sure I know) how he does his act, and I’m curious to see if the technical issues ruined it for him.
in watching the youtube of it - I thought the ‘glitch’ was part of the act - given that he showed up behind the judges with a fireextinguisher.
I think it was supposed to come crashing down and catch on fire. The assistants would come running in to put out the fire and he would be among them.
Watching it live, at first I thought it was part of the act too, in that I thought it was supposed to catch for a moment before coming crashing down for an extra moment of tension.
Don’t know for sure, but based on other similar escape acts I’ve seen, I assume the trunk was supposed to fall to the ground and be impaled on the flaming spikes to everyone’s horror… until the magician shows up somewhere else, unhurt.
In this case the trunk only fell a little bit – it looks like it sort of twisted as it fell, the right side falling faster than the left, and so got jammed between the uprights of the supporting structure. I presume the magician had already escaped from the trunk way before that point, had already climbed down, and was running around the stage to come in from the rear to surprise the audience and judges.
So why he waited so long to appear, I dunno. Froze, not knowing what to do for a half minute or so? Or else it simply took that long to traverse from back stage to the entrance the audience comes in through, and there was nothing else he could do without the added time usually filled by the audience reacting in shock/horror, stage hands running out with fire extinguishers to ‘rescue’ him, and so forth. Heck, it’s likely he didn’t even know there had been a problem until he made it through the audience door.
Darci Lynne new character is cute. Great song choice.
I still think she could eventually have a career as a singer. The Ventriloquism is cute now, but in ten years? I see it holding potentially her career back.
She’s one of my front runners for AGT.
The other is the singer Mandy Harvey.
If I recall correctly, Simon could be heard saying “he’ll be behind us” - I think he may finally be figuring out that magic isn’t real.
He needs to find a different blowoff for his tricks than "And now I am over here! Ha, bamboozled again! "
The magician who got through, I can’t think of his name and I’m so disappointed The Masqueraders didn’t make it, did anyone notice the change in handwriting on Howie’s card? I didn’t, but I was not paying too much attention. My daughter said people were upset The Masqueraders didn’t make it and it was very obvious he switched cards because the handwriting was very different. I don’t know how he would’ve pulled the trick off without doing a switch, but if it was that obvious, that’s some bad magic. I remember they showed Howie signing it, and now I wish I’d paid better attention. Imo, they’ve had much better magic acts and I’m still hurting for The Masqueraders.
I hadn’t thought about that before, but you’re right. He has done exactly that in each of the three acts we’ve seen. At least this time he didn’t have his wife right there to scream and ‘panic’ and hype the suspense.
Or maybe she’d have come from offstage to scream about ‘get him out’ but since there was no obvious danger to him at that point…
I preferred the Masqueraders, too. I think they were hurt by not doing a familiar song this time. It always takes me a while to really warm up to a new song, and I suspect a lot of people are the same way. It’s like at first I’m paying too much attention to figuring out the words/their meaning rather than simply enjoying the sound.
But all hope isn’t lost. Apparently what happens is, there are three rounds of these quarter-finals, each passing seven acts through, for 21.
Then they have two shows of ‘semi-finals’, each with 12 acts, meaning they need 24 acts. So there must be three more who will get a second chance, whether they call them Wild Cards or Judge’s Picks or whatever.
