Over here, is a nice story in the New York Times about the US sending jazz musicians on world tours during the Cold War era. Great stuff. The jazz music on Voice of America also had a good impact.
Can any of our non-USA Dopers comment on the impact of jazz overseas?
I spent a lot of time overseas, but don’t live there now. I can tell you that jazz has had a major impact in Paris, and the French had a major impact on American jazz musicians, particularly black musicians. The Dutch are also jazz fanatics, and there is an annual jazz festival in Brussels, as I recall.
Ha-HA!
I got all 3 of Dizzy Gillespie’s State Department Tour albums on CD.
