The procedure itself went fine but the last 10 days have been hell. I called my doctor today and the receptionist said my doctor would call me back shortly because she wanted to speak to the doctor who performed the amnio before speaking with me. Of course, I interpreted this as there being something bad in the results. Instead, the results were perfect and the consultation was to confirm the sex of the baby: yay, we’re having a girl!
This is truly a miracle, and now I can finally relax a bit…
A funny aside from my amnio. I had told the doctor that I didn’t want to know the baby’s sex. So at a later appointment, she had my file and was holding it, inadvertently, where I could see it. I saw: “Sex: F” on the top page - nothing else, didn’t see what the report was, I looked away too quickly.
So I averted my eyes and said “Um, I really didn’t want to know the sex, don’t hold that up where I can see it”. She sounded very confused and wanted to know what on earth I was talking about. I said “I saw it on that page: sex = F”.
She start laughing. She said “That’s your labwork, and that’s your sex!”.
Now, it coulda been a bluff on her part… but Dweezil was born several months later with outdoor plumbing so I guess she was telling the truth :).
That’s funny. I was just about to type…“don’t look at the actual chromosome chart if you don’t want to know the sex” We accidently found out our twins were girls when the doctor showed us the chart without checking that we knew the difference between an x and a y chromosome.
Congrats! So fun planning for a girl. Mine had a closet full of clothes before she was even born. But that’s because my first was a boy and the boy clothes options at that time were pretty limited. Plus shopping for girl stuff was just tons o fun. Enjoy the journey. There is really nothing like the mother/daughter bond
