Who are you and why are you playing around on FriarTed’s computer?!?
Seriously, though, why has Sen. Clinton’s stock risen in your mind? I’m curious, because I think of her as one of the two most despised women in America to most conservative Christians (Pelosi being the other).
Because the conservative side of the “culture war” is not about religion and values alone but is inextricably bound up with the fight over immigration, which is inextricably bound up with racism however many protestations you might year to the contrary. Whereas the other side of the “culture war” has always been anti-racist on principle; it’s one of its defining characteristics, along with secularism and acceptance of gays and hostility to/suspicion of the gun culture.
Put another way: If you were to go to a meeting of Buchanan’s America First Party, how many non-white faces would you expect to see there? Some, perhaps, but not many. Same if you went to a meeting of the religious-right Constitution Party. There are a great many socially conservative blacks, Latinos and Jews, but they’re never going to feel entirely at home in the same movement as these guys.
