An Argument that Hits Home with MAGA

Searching for an argument that hits home with MAGA is a fool’s errand. In my limited experience with them, they’re the adult equivalent of “I know you are, but what am I?” Like an argumentative pre-pubescent, they’ll refuse to see themselves - or their orange king - in anything no matter how simply or cogently it’s presented. As Colbert put it (in re: GWB), they believe on Wednesday the same thing they believed on Monday no matter what happened on Tuesday.

Just so many, many errors, deflections, and mistruths from that site, and I only spent about five minutes skimming through various articles beyond the ones linked. It’s like reading a Bill Bryson book or watching a Ken Burns documentary, filtered through a libertarian fisheye lens.

Socialism is orthogonal to fascism. The former is a model for how to run an economy, the latter a model for how to run a government.

It’s my blog and I’m among the most politically neutral people on the site:

To be sure, I don’t have enough time to write to spend a hundred pages documenting repetitious citations, to really drive home the points, and delve into the nuances of many things that make them more complicated to discuss. That’s not intended to create half-truths, it’s just a matter of time limits.

But I would put it to you that the fisheye might not be on my side. As I’ve pointed out before, Roe v Wade was a Republican decision; the FDA was created by the Republican party; our asylum system was put into place by Reagan; the Framers of the Constitution hated democracy.

When those are true - and they are - I would sort of expect that anyone who hasn’t taken a step back in a while and really reviewed the historical record and double-checked some assumptions, would feel the presence of a massive distortion field. There is certainly at least one. I can’t guarantee that I’m not adding a second one, but I’d ensure that you’re in line with the things I just listed that are true before assuming that it’s just me.

How am I meant to deal with a wider distortion of reality, beyond quoting, making an argument, and leaving it to you to decide whether you’re dealing with a crazy person or someone who’s just being honest about the history?

Moderating:

In providing cites, it is best practice to do full disclosure (and giving you full credit, you did so a few posts later as quoted above) of any involvement in said research or editorial control. I have added a note on the initial cite to advise of that to prevent misunderstandings going ahead.

This is just a guidance, not a warning. Nothing on your permanent record.

What is RWNJ board ? Thanx !

RWNJ is almost always short for “Right Wing Nut Job”, so a RWNJ board would be expected to be any of a number message boards whose membership consists of American Right Wing (often Far/Fringe Right) political viewpoints.

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out, because I was not a socialist.”. Remember, Hitler and his party might have called themselves whatever they liked, but based on what they actually did, they regarded socialists as their worst enemy. The National Socialist Party was only socialist in the same way that North Korea is a Peoples’ Democratic Republic.

Ok near my home town in Nj ..Robert Wood Johnson New Jersey a regularly seen item

Being “politically neutral” does not equate to being factually correct or well-informed about history and politics.

Most of the folks that I know or have had the chance to have some discussion with are folks who were not political till Donald Trump entered politics. The vast majority also enjoyed his television show The Apprentice. I have family members I would wager that couldn’t name more than 4 or 5 senators in NJ’s history and he is 67 but he could name every heavy metal rock band going back to 1975….Yes he is a very good guitarist and worships Trump and his movement to the point of a fractured family relationship….This is Beyond horrible for me!
