An example of what's wrong with GD moderation.

So,another thread shut down, a (very temporary) topic ban, but still no actual warnings for the instigator.

Keep telling us how you want to save GD, Jonathan Chance

…because you seem to think what’s been missing is apparently more Sci Fi debates, not better moderation

If you don’t like the quality of GD threads, maybe you should start some yourself. It’s only been what, five years? JC’s latest thread series doesn’t interest me all that much but has been attracting plenty of participants. So at least he’s making some effort that has a positive result.

One poster starting a few did threads, one that gets moved and one that gets closed, hardly strikes me as a crisis. Single threads are much easier to ignore than hijacks to other threads. E.g. JC’s religion thread kind of turned into IMHO “why I am/not religious”, but IIRC people eventually got back on topic on their own.

“dud” threads. Fixed that twice.

Since you’ve looked over my thread starting history, you can tell I’m much more of a GD participant than a GD thread starter - only 10% of my threads, whereas I’d wager more than 30% of my posts are there.

Some of us are just not Nature’s thread starters. Doesn’t mean we can’t have opinions about the forum or the moderation thereof.

Yeah, it’s nice that JC’s threads have hit it off. Know what that makes him? An excellent GD poster

And yes, the one poster isn’t a crisis - but he (and especially the moderation of him and his ilk, or lack thereof) is a symptom of one.

Moderator Action

Since this thread is basically nothing more than MrDibble expressing his dislike for JC as a mod, that’s enough. If anyone has an actual specific issue to discuss, feel free to open a new thread. As for MrDibble, you can’t pit mods, and you can’t politely pit mods in ATMB. If you have an actual issue to discuss that’s fine, but if all you have to say is that you don’t like a particular mod, well, you’re just going to have to deal with that yourself. Do not create threads just to express your dislike for anyone on the moderation staff.

If anyone has actual constructive criticism or ideas on how to improve GD, feel free to start a new thread.
