Saturday night TV at present consists of tacky gameshows,repeats,reality TV and let’s look at other peoples homes/families/animals.
In days gone by, often a play was broadcast and several of these play showcases spawned classic comedies such as Porridge,Rising Damp,Open All Hours. Each week, there are numerous amateur groups staging performances. Why not have a camera crew along to a different performance each week and record it? Then after maybe 6-8 weeks after actual performance date(so it doesn’t interfere with actual seat sales, it can be shown on TV. People get to see a quality play each week, in a variety of genres. The actors get to see themselves on national TV and there’s always the chance a truly excellent actor might get a break. And since we already see people we’ve never heard of on TV, instead of watching them sit around in a house, let’s get them doing something useful
