Surely you’re heard of peaceful dissent. And surely you know that many communities have already decriminalized marijuana use. “Because it’s the law” is a tired excuse. Most people recognize that this is a victimless crime.
Hey…I think it’s great that she wants to “work with them”. I wouldn’t personally take it that far, but it’s her choice. But if they don’t want to work with her, or if the solutions (such as the dryer sheets) don’t solve the problem, I’d let it go. Period. The option of going to the police would never be exercised by me in any situation I considered to be “no big deal.” I wouldn’t consider having them arrested, fined, miss work, come up with bail money, hire attorneys, lose their jobs, etc. over “no big deal.” I reserve police action for “BIG DEALS.”
Yet by your own cite, most people don’t favor decriminalizing it. Most people agree that it’s a crime worthy of at least a fine.
While you, persoanlly, disagree with this, surely you can see that someone that did want to make an issue of it would not be acting objectively unreasonably - yes?
I will say that a person has every legal right to act unreasonably. If they feel a burning need to follow the law even though they don’t have feelings one way or the other about it, that’s their choice.
One place is Holland, where it is LEGAL. Or, one’s own house, rather than an apartment.
In any apartment, an apartment dweller has a right not to be subject to offensive smells of an illegal substance.
However, more to the point, next time they fire one up, go to the vent and bellow something about smelling pot. Hopefully, they will hear it and take note. May be the easiest route for all concerned.
