An interesting side effect of taking my snow tires off.....

Last Saturday I had the snow tires taken off the Ion and my street tires put back on, amazingly enough, it didn’t snow the next day…, but I also noticed another significant difference…

with the snows on, I was getting an average of 28-30 MPG city

with the street tires on, the ONLY change I’ve made, I’m now getting around 34 MPG estimated** City mileage

**I’ve burned about 3.25 gallons of fuel, (1/4 tank out of a 13 gallon fuel tank), and have driven about 112 miles, so by my rough calculations I’m getting around 34 MPG!

not too bad for city mileage
Looks like you don’t need a Hybrid to get acceptable fuel mileage

Well, yeah, where do you figure all that noise they make comes from?

I certainly noticed the difference swapping from knobbly tires to slicks on my mountain bkike for commuting. Gentle cruising speed on the flat went up from about 16mph and noisy to 18mph and quiet.
