I was recently contacted privately by an ex-member of this board who was banned a few weeks ago. They asked me if Wally had died, and when I said yes, it was true, their response, among other insensitive comments, was basically, “Bummer.” (They then went on to prove how incredibly stupid they still are, but that’s another story entirely.) When I mentioned this in passing to another member of this board (who I will not mention by name unless they so identify themselves), their response was that the truly funny, sad and somehow poetic thing is that now that Wally is gone, the vast majority of the posters on this board feel his loss in a very real, emotional sense, regardless of the fact that they never met him in person, whereas the ignorant, vindictive trolls and sock puppets that constantly harass us could disappear off the face of the earth tomorrow, and no one would miss them, let alone feel their loss as deeply as we felt Wally’s.
As my very, very wise Uncle Bish once said, “He lives in Kansas - isn’t that punishment enough?” In a sad way, they have my pity.
Dunno why I posted this in the Pit, except perhaps if someone wanted to say, “Fuck yeah!”

Anyways, there’s nothing poetic about it. It’s the difference between losing someone who you respected deeply and knew as at least a casual acquaintance for a while, and the numbnuts who once cut you off in traffic happening to die.
Couldn’t agree more with everything said so far. I had one other question about trolls, which is why is the activity of trolling the only thing they want to talk about? Although now that I think about it, a person who was born with the disability of having their grey matter composed entirely of that brown runny smelly stuff that comes out of our asses after a bad curry, would probably have a special interest with talking about shit.
I would guess that trolls have serious mental issues. Maybe not all of them, but the ones who would belittle the profound effects that death can have on people, or the ones who make fun of people who come here and post a genuine problem they have, asking for possible solutions. It’s, IMHO, a form of cruelty. And these heartless bastards have nothing better to do then to cause pain to other people. Or at least try as hard as they can.
Furthermore, being the thread subject has the word ‘troll’ in it, I’m sure a few are poking around here somewhere. To you I’d like to add, get a fucking life. To come in here to be ridiculously stupid and make asses of yourselves is one thing. To come here to deliberately try to cause pain to other people is just fucking cruel.
I, for one, am amazingly pissed off at the missed opportunity for me to even TRY to get to know Wally. I joined as a result of a cross-post to ULRP about his death that led me here. I was so impressed by the outpouring of love and affection and grief for Wally that I HAD to join this group. (Not to mention the fact that you guys are so witty and funny that I laugh out loud while I read the posts…)So I will never have a Wally sig., never be insulted by Wally, greeted by him, or called Putz by him. I’m not even comfortable using the Putz smiley, 'cause since I didn’t get to know him, I just don’t feel entitled. All I can say about these trolls is that they either lack the basic common decency to be sorry for the loss of a person who was obviously special, or they…well, they have no brains, heart, etc. at all.
And evidence of someone else who simply won’t be missed when they go, either from this board or from this earth.
waterj2, you can guess, but I won’t confirm in public (as they’ve already admitted that they continue to read the board). Needless to say, though, it’s someone who was infamous round here.
Iguana, I wouldn’t even mind the trolling for the sake of getting a reaction, but when they get banned and just cannot learn from their mistakes, it’s just sad and pitiful.
And TroubleAgain, in this particular poster’s case, they fully admitted they have no friends, and therefore simply couldn’t sympathize (not that he would if he even knew how). Pitiful, really.
I don't know where you get off, in making fun of TroubleAgain's statement, you seem to be a troll in that aspect. Trouble expressed that he was gladdened by the response of all the people's responses of grief to Wally's death, he didn't say "I want to stomp these people's heart". His views are similar to a hero of mythology that you never get to meet, but wish you could.
Ummm, that was my fault. I deleted the troll’s post, yes, and didn’t read the other posts carefully to see if someone had made mention of the troll.
People, PLEASE do not even notice the trolls. It will make it easier for us mods to clean up. I know that they make tempting targets, but feeding them only makes them stronger.
The first sentence in my post was referring to the now-deleted trollpost. The paragraph where I specifically address TroubleAgain was meant for him/her.
In that case, I’d just like to apologize for my behavior last night. I fed the trolls. A lot. And I’m sorry. Damned if it wasn’t fun, though. That being said, once you trace all the strings back to the puppeteers, you find that we are dealing with only two people, the artist formerly known as dippymonger, and the imposter master, whom I believe is actually xfiles. (There’s a very interesting thread in ATMB, http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=28981) If my suppositions are indeed correct, I fully support contacting their respective ISPs, because this borders on harrassment. So now I think I’ll just sit back and wait for a phony neuro-trash grrrl to show up, or else come back in a couple of months to find that this thread has been dredged up again by someone searching for the keyword “troll”.

I WAS the “most fed” troll ever! While that wasn’t my goal.
My goal was to see if I could get attension. After I got attension and more attension I took things to the next level, and so on. And people just ate my shit up. Really if I had just been ignored I would have hung it up. And that’s what I still don’t understand. The way to get rid of troublemakers is to starve them of attension. No attension at all, whatsoever. All this troll hunting is dumb–it makes the problem worse. I just don’t understand why a board of intelligent people doesn’t get this! The goal of a troll is to garner a reaction. They are quite successful on this board.
