Final Fantasia
I leap for joy
Surrounded by Taru
And eating Soy
My Mithra does dance
through the Windhurst realm
One day I might own
A cute mithril helm
That day is far off
For the cash is now farmed
By desperate high-level
players who threaten harm
Still I enjoy
the partying show
we gather our players
then the white mage says “No!”
Lost and forsaken
We kill a few mobs
But our path is stymied
For we lack the right jobs
But soldier on
We Windhurst-loving few
endlessly adventuring
But White Mage really blew
Back at home
In my free moogle home
I dream of more travels
Where e’er next I’ll roam
Sigh
I always loved Final Fantasy XI, and I just got very n ostalgic for it. As an MMORPG, it was decidedly a very “mixed” creation. It had and still has so much going for it, but a number of issues just lease it kinda difficult to play. Making money is very important in the game, for example because unlike WoW you don’t get many good item drops and you may need multiple sets of gear. Thus, it had an early and somewhat ineffective implementation of an auction house. I remember finding and selling really good deals there at times, but that’s life.
As a side issue, it has the same problems with inflation that so many MMORPG’s encounter. WoW, of course, purposely built in many huge money sinks to fix this. This was one fo the bigger problems I had - higher levels players levbelling their lower-level jobs and bidding up the good gear. It eventually got really hard to do damage because I couldn’t actually get a proper weapon.
But despite this, and the fact that I couldn’t get anywhere , I ahve fond memories of playing. I really should have just played a Taru, but Mithra are so cute I wanted to see one running around the screen. I have a soft spot for catgirls.
So, an Ode to FInal Fantasy XI: May it live long and prosper.
