Seems they forgot to get around to it. Apparently the Government “retains incredibly invasive powers over the entire population’s civil rights and liberties”.

 Incredible!

Wow! And I thought my state’s government was screwed up!

Heh, that’s nothing!

A couple of years ago, a small village in the Dutch province of Zeeland found out that they were technically still at war with Spain. They were autonomous at the time, and had just never revoked the declaration of war. Calls were made, and a few days later, the Spanish ambassador in the Netherlands visited the village to sign the peace treaty, some 350 years after the end of the 80 Year War.

It was hilarious.

Thank God the bloodshed is finally at an end.

Of course, there’s the anomalous situation of Berwick-upon-Tweed (scroll down).

I heard a rumour that Canada was technically still at war with Mexico for some reason. Can anyone detail?

We were (are?) at war with Mexico? That’s news to me!

That’s hilarious, Coldie!

And this recalls to mind those Japanese soldiers who would occasionally pop out of the underbrush of a Pacific island, during the 1960s and 1970s, to surrender to the Americans.

At least all the soldiers from the Dutch-Spanish wars of the 16th and 17th centuries have safely passed on!

You sure of that RT? Maybe some of their descendants are wandering around with their guns still and thinking that the war is still on…

Boy and people think the USofA is warlike.

The Perfect Master on Did some Japanese soldiers hold out for years after WWII?.

Russia and Japan never finished their part of WWII. (But note that Russia declared war just a couple weeks before Japan surrendered, so it hasn’t been that long of a war:).) Russian occupation of some Japanese islands continues to be the main stumbling block.

IIRC, some final settlements of the European theater didn’t take place until Germany was re-united.

So, S. Australia might actually be jumping the gun.
