I will pay 10% of my future earnings to the baseball player whose foul ball flies into the broadcast booth and stops Tim McCarver’s piehole from yammering.

And what is this “Right Now!” business? I’m watching the game, OK? I know the player that is pitching and the one that is batting; I even know who’s on first and what’s on second. It’s gonna be a long playoffs.
I’m muting this sucker and instituting an all points search on my radio dial.
Once again, I love XM. Last year they had the playoffs on ESPN Radio, so I didn’t have to listen to McCarver. This year they have the home team broadcast, which isn’t quite as nice as getting ESPN Radio’s broadcast, but makes it more interesting.
Yeah, why is it I hate Tim McCarver so much? He grates on me like hell, but last night listening to the game, I couldn’t figure out exactly why. Is it that he overexplains everything?
Listening to McCarver is like listening to the Yankees home broadcast. Actually I get XM and the Yankees home radio announcers are less enthused about the Yankees than McCarver is. I understand he has a massive man-crush on Derek Jeter, but that adds to the pain of listening to the guy.
Would you rather they wheel out “Scooter” Phil Rizzuto? I would. Even though he was getting a little addled in his last few seasons in the announce booth, he could out-announce McCarver easily. Hoever, as a former top-notch shortstop, don’t expect the Jeter focus to change.
Problem is, there’s nothing that can easily be done (other than your DVR idea.) There’s just too much transmission delay with the satellites and all. Unless you’ve got some way of managing to break the speed of light…
I have XM too & I was able to get the ESPN feed. They dedicate 3 MLB play by play staions to each game. Home team broadcast, ESPN feed & Spanish feed. Why they just can’t add the away broadcast as well, I have no idea.
Oh…and to stay on topic, McCarver sucks. In addition to that, Chris Berman doing baseball is a sin against nature as well (Chicago/Boston on ESPN.)
[HomerMetsFanLookingForSomethingPositive]I was pleasantly surprised by Mike Piazza’s additions to the broadcast.[/HMFLFSP]
Bandwidth. Between having 3 games yesterday and today and the NHL starting up, they simply don’t have the bandwidth available to carry home and away as well as ESPN and the Spanish feed.
They can do it for the LCS because they only have 2 games to worry about and they’re not likely to conflict with each other often. The Series will be even easier for them.
XM could carry home and away for every game all season like Sirius does for the NFL. They’d just have to preempt 8 music channels to do it.
I understand that is the reason during the season, but during the DLS there are a wealth of available channels. They dedicate 15 cahnnels to english baseball broadcasts, right? There have been 3 games per day. Home, away, ESPN & Spanish gives us 4 broadcasts for each game. 4x3=12 channels. You have enough channels to add a broadcast featuring me and This Year’s Model doing play by play. I think it has more to do with the licensing agreement.
Oh…and for Hockey, it looks like the NHL is going to be on channels 204-209 which are different from the 176-191 for baseball.
