I’m going to be an English teacher at a local high school. It’s what I always wanted to be when I grew up, I just took this long to admit it to myself
I start on Tuesday and I can’t wait!

Woohoo! It must be job week at the dope!
Wishing you luck in your new career!
Yay! Congratulations!
“My Hovercraft is full of eels!”
Congrats!
Many years ago I spent time in Norway. At one house I stayed in there was a 12 year old boy who was so very proud of his English. All of it learned off the BBC. None of it fit to type here.
Good luck!
Congrats!
And, yeah, isn’t it great to be part of this little burst of gainful employment announcements?
Next step: Learn to be a good teacher. Look up “Cool English Teacher” on CollegeHumor.com. I’d link to it, but I can’t from work.
Of course not. It’s British. It’s barely English!
Congrats! So nice to see a rash of good news on the Dope!
All this good job news makes me feel like Kermit, running around flailing his arms and screaming, “Yaaaaaay!”
Congratulations!
Seriously, are we having a real recovery or something?
Cream rises to the top.
Talent will out.
And my heartiest congratulations to you, too, flodnak! There are a couple of my old English teachers who are still incredibly dear to me, though I’ve been out of school for more than thirty years.
Congrats! It’ll be brilliant for the students to have a proper english-speaker as a teacher. Accent inbreeding is probably the worst obstacle for non-native speakers and having someone to ask for the correct pronunciation is a BIG help!
(I blame last generation’s english teachers for Jagland.)
I wish! I’m still job-hunting!
But anyway, best of luck for you! Hope the kids are well-behaved and the budget is sufficient. Teaching high school is a calling… it’s a hard road and kudos to you and everyone else who walks that road.
