I got a call from my friend who is staying in my house. Since he woke me up, he said he’d call today. But he did say there was 18" of snow. In one day. In Birch Bay. My first winter there it snowed for a couple of weeks in January/February. I guess it got to be about ankle-deep. Last year it snowed for a couple of days and melted quickly. (Which is good, because with my damaged knees I don’t like ice on the walkway.)
I miss my home and look forward to the day when I move back. But I can do without shovelling and sweeping the walk.
Victoria’s kind of shut down. It’s very pretty, and very quiet. The last big storm we had was in 1996. Sooner or later, the dog’s gotta go back out for her morning business…
I’ve already shoveled our driveway once, but overnight, more snow fell and I have to do it again.
…at least today we have power. Yesterday, it was bundle up, light candles, and play Scrabble and gin rummy in the quiet.
I’m irritated. All last week, the weathermen kept telling us that we were going to get snow, lots and lots of snow. Unfortunately, when it was too warm for snow, it’d rain. When it was cold enough for snow, the rain would stop. We did, briefly, have about 1.5 inches of snow… but it melted within hours. Right now, it’s cold and spitting a few flakes every now and then. The weathermen are still saying we’re going to get some serious snow, but I’m starting to doubt 'em.
The mountain about thirty miles from here, Mount Bachelor, got about 70 inches of snow over the week, however. I really need to go hit the slopes.
It’s raining here, for the first time in ages. Cool, too…around 50 or so. About time. I like winter weather, as long as it’s confined to winter and doesn’t spill over into the other seasons, such as they are around here.
Me too! I actually would have tried to make it in for a little while if the buses had been running because my cells are dying in the incubator as we speak, but since they aren’t, I’m enjoying my day off.
I’m planning on going for a walk around James Bay and Beacon Hill Park this afternoon and taking lots of photos, so I’ll post some later.
Thankfully I live in an apartment, so I don’t have to worry about shoveling snow. Now as long as the power stays on, I’m good…
Snowing in the Willamette Valley. It wasn’t snowing below 500 feet, but it might be now! This is early for us. Great for killing fleas; not so great that I’m waiting for a heat pump repair.
Ugh. Winter. I’ll be shovelling the driveway this winter - I’m broke, for one thing, plus I had a fence erected and I’m certain the dimwit who plows for us will knock it over if given half a chance.
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for a mild winter.
I am supposed to go to Vancouver this weekend. According to various reports, right now, half the city doesn’t have power and I don’t even want to guess as to what the roads look like.
It had so better warm up.
I greatly dislike snow. It’s cold, it’s wet, and it’s incredibly inconveniencing.
On Black Friday, my wife and I went to buy winter coats, because it had been getting unseasonably cool here in the Big Bend. So, today it’s 75 and will be about the same all week. Not that I’m complaining, mind you! That’s what I love about Florida.
My brother in Vancouver sent me some pictures he took in the back yard last night, of everything with four inches of snow on it, and tree branches coated in snow. I’m all finished with that stuff…you guys can have it!
16 C on Wednesday! Woooo!!! [sub]And then Thursday night the temperature goes off a cliff. I expect the usual road panic and mayhem on the Evil Death Highway of Doom known as the 401…[/sub]
