And now: What about all those cops turning their backs on De Blasio?

By definition they are public servants, right?

At minimum, when the behaviour gets beyond the point where they can claim it’s necessary for safety.

You seem to be a fan of authority so the answer should be obvious. When the powers at be go through the prescribed disciplinary steps as mandated by their union. Seeing as no actual disciplinary steps have been taken and even above the commissioner does not even threaten discipline - I think it’s safe to say that this is not unacceptable behavior that rises to the level of official discipline.

How do you reconcile your worship of authority with the idea that you’re not happy with how the authority figures are handling the situation?

The department has failed in its duty to the city and its people and it has lost my respect.

In the news today cops are saluting the mayor again.

I’m sure they’ll be devastated to learn that.

Oh, non-sequiturs. Is that what we’re doing now? OK uh - I like bacon.

Holy fuck can we put the recreational grief over these two cops to bed yet? Sure, it sucks that they got killed. But Jesus titty-fucking Christ does every police department in the fucking world need to send recreational grievers? Do we need to paint them as the second coming of Christ Himself? From all accounts there were a couple of decent guys who died too soon. This tragedy plays itself out thousands of times every day.

Sounds good to me. After all, nobody’s publicly mourning Michael Brown or Eric Garner anymore, right?

Breaking news: they’ve done it again at Liu’s funeral.

No, they aren’t. They’re protesting against institutional racism. MB and EG may be symbols of that, but their deaths, per se, are not being continually mourned.

However, if you’d like to organize some protests against “crazy people”, that would be comparable.

As well as sublimely ironic.

The mayor never gets saluted. He is not a ranking member of the police department. The commissioner was saluted by the honor guard as required. The mayor was with him.

Argh. At least it wasn’t all of them. Must have been a tad awkward for those who faced forward and had to make eye contact with the people facing backwards - “so, er, nice weather we’re having, huh?”

It looks immature if not childish.

This is what mature men do?

Bizarre behaviour from adults.

The cops’ behavior, desecrating funerals of their own dead, was obviously repugnant. This thread allows good insight into the Board’s right-wingers.

Most of the Board is intelligent, with intelligent views:

But the thread is dominated by cretins:

Oh, but we’re more interested in what you think, Clothy.

Ooh, maybe not so interested. But, BTW, were you one of the same dolts arguing that black kids DO need to be trained not to antagonize cops?

John Mace has the reputation of right-winger smart enough not to vote for the lunatics and hypocrites. But, at heart, he’s still a stupid right-winger. Perhaps Lord Feldon is his fellow-traveler.

 Is this ‘Blame the Victim’? Or just ‘Blame anyone other than the Police’?

There does seem to be a contest going; who can be the stupidest right-wing asshole? Perhaps we need a Poll. Are polls allowed in BBQ Pit?

Contestants include:

Seems you’ve already forgotten my pro-tip to you: It’s ineffective for the stupid to try to satirize stupid thought.

Well said.

Thank you, magellan01. You’re so predictable. :stuck_out_tongue:

nm

Hahahaha. It appears that your only point is to object to anyone having an opposing viewpoint. On a public forum. hehehehe. Good luck with that. :smack:

You need to start a septimus blog where you can actually forbid anyone from disagreeing with you.

Not nearly as mature as the protesters daily threats against the lives of police officers and their families. Or as mature as the arsonists, looters, assassins of police officers, and protesters who beat and kick police officers for attempting to arrest criminals.

Truly bizarre behavior from adults.

No, this can’t be put to bed yet.

The actions of the mobs of angry, professional, protesters keep these officers in the forefront of the minds of most people who are interested in these stories.
