Probably a little of both.
I have no more actual evidence than what is in the article. Have I ever stated otherwise?
shrug Take your pick.

This has to be among the dumbest contortion I have seen to defend a position…hope nothing got broke…
Seriously?
So…this time you are ONLY breaking into my house, interrogating me and arresting me for bullshit. What a relief!
What about these plans were “secret or covert”? The major news media reported a “massive” protest that was actually secret?
And those organized and orderly protests in the civil rights era BLOCKED STREETS!
For their trouble they got hosed down and had dogs sent after them (lack of pepper spray I guess).
The protestors WANTED to get their asses kicked? Really? Cite?
And police being “racist fuckers” in no way absolves them.
Your take on this is astounding. It is like, “Well, he is an abusive asshole so you can’t really get fussed when he beats the living shit out of his wife.”
What the fuck is wrong with you?
*“Quite frankly, if police did not react as they did when the Civil Rights Movement took place, the protesters themselves would have been dissapointed. They WANTED the police, and the general racist public, to react the way they did, because it drew more attention to the injustices the movement sought to end.”

What the hell is that? Does this mean we should be glad men abused women so we could become aware that they were being abused? The women WANTED the abuse? Yes it is an analogy but how is that fundamentally different?
Thank god people do shitty things to bring light to people doing shitty things.
I NEVER said it did.
“We had no alternative except to prepare for direct action, whereby we would present our very bodies as a means of laying our case before the conscience of the local and the national community. Mindful of the difficulties involved, we decided to undertake a process of self purification. We began a series of workshops on nonviolence, and we repeatedly asked ourselves: “Are you able to accept blows without retaliating?” “Are you able to endure the ordeal of jail?””
-Martin Luther King, Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963
Well, actually yes. That’s exactly what makes the Civil Rights Movement such a brave movement. These people knew that doing what they were doing was going to bring a lot of heat upon them. They knew it was going to get worse before it got better. They are some of the bravest people I have EVER read about.
I guess I actually know my history.
