Devil’s advocate time: does this kind of speculation and reaction (i.e. “I knew it!”) reinforce negative stereotypes by strengthening the notion that straight men must act a certain way and gay men must act a certain way, and that if you have qualities X, Y, and Z, then you MUST be gay or else in denial?
I suspect that the mother’s age (50 years old) may have something to do with it.
