That’s funny…I just regained the will to live…and to kill.
No, I mean where the hell is my *Rockford Files *reboot???
Good news is that we can still recast.
Nathan Fillion is a great choice but as long as Castle is going strong…
I think Jeffery Dean Morganwould be a good choice.
Weird. I distinctly remember that some lesser P.I. tried to extort information from Rockford by threatening to reveal he had a gun in his trailer in violation of his parole. J.R. slapped him down by telling the lesser P.I. that he wasn’t on parole; he had a full pardon.
I think this is the best suggestion so far. As a huge TRF fan, I would watch this remake.
I could see that as a possibility. He wouldn’t be James Garner but it would at least be worth watching.
As for Garner, fans should check out the movie Marlowe. Obviously, it’s not an official pilot for the series but for all practical purposes this is James Garner playing Jim Rockford.
For all those unanswered questions, I recommend a book with just about any Rockford fact you’d ever want to know: Thirty Years of The Rockford Files: An Inside Look at America’s Greatest Detective Series.
Should be Mel Gibson.
Yes, just because he did that other role.
And if they ever remake Baa Baa Black Sheep, they should have Will Smith play Pappy Boyington. For the same reason.
I think both these guys are too strong and tough to be Angel. They need womeone who can play a weasel.
My choice - John Leguizamo
My second choice would be maybe a little physically imposing, but I think he could pull it off – Damon Wayans. Actually one of the lesser Wayanses would work too.
Another excellent choice.
Nathan Fillion was my first thought, but I have to admit Bruce is a better choice.
What other role?
He played Brett Maverick (another Garner role) in the movie version of the series.
Ah. Thanks.
OOooooh! Best choice yet! He’s got that world-weary, cranky-yet-approachable demeanor, that I’m-tired-of-this-shit attitude, and the ability to convincingly get the crap beat out of him on a regular basis. He might be aging out of the role, though.
Some great Angel choices! I like Steve Buschemi & John Leguizamo a lot! Both can play weaselly, but likable enough for us to understand why Rockford doesn’t shove 'em off a pier. Damon Wayans might work, but I’d want him to not use one of his ridiculous voices/accents.
Who would play Rocky? Someone mentioned Burt Reynolds, but I wonder if he wouldn’t get to be problematic on a series. If you went a little younger with Rockford, Like Jeffery Dean Morgan or Nathan Fillion, maybe Bruce Campbell or Tom Selleck could be Rocky.
Someone mentioned Steve Buscemi as Angle; he’d be great!
I have a couple possibilities for Rockford:
1.) Jon Hamm. Now hear me out! He is actually very good with comedy, as I’ve heard a bunch on comedy Podcasts, as well as his role on 30 Rock. I think he could pull it off well.
2.) Josh Brolin. I think his character from No Country for Old Men could be adapted to Rockford by making him a bit more intelligent and more sly. I think Brolin is a great actor who could pull off that role.
Not sure who I’d cast for Rocky and Denis.
Having just hit Post, a thought came to me. Make The Rockford Files into a Coen Brothers film!
Josh Brolin as Rockford.
William H. Macy as Denis.
Steve Bucemi as Angle.
Frances McDormand as Beth.
Throw in John Goodman and John Turturro and the film is almost done!
Josh Brolin is hands down the best suggestion for Jim Rockford so far.
Well, he’d certainly be acute playing such an obtuse character. I think you’re right!
I agree. He is definitely the most Rockford-esque.
ETA: Good boy, sparky!
You call yourselves fans-it’s Angel, not Angle.
He’s not a rouge angle of Satin?
Who will play Lance White? And what about Gandolph “Rockfish” Fitch?
