Oh, joy.
Well, at least it’s not a sports stadium. And at least the empty space is getting filled up.
Because of stuff like this, there never will actually be another Las Vegas created in the US. Just small stuff, a casino or a small cluster here or there. Not the same thing. (Thankfully.)
Whenever some idiot sites asks for my zip code, they’re going to find out I “live” in Schenectady. Maybe I’ll start seeing (more) gambling ads.
I just hope the hotel has adequate (and relatively cheap) function space. We could run an Albacon then.
I’ve been to a couple curling tournaments in Schenectady, including one this past weekend. I hope this casino doesn’t bring an unsavory element to town.
We don’t need the competition.
Whoa there. The next Las Vegas? That’s getting ahead of yourself. You need to start out as the next Hogansburg, work your way up to being the next Verona, and then maybe you’ll be ready to be the next Ledyard.
What, if anything, happens in Schenectady, stays in Schenectady.
Hey there, neighbor! I live in Colonie.
Pleasantly surprised the state didn’t pick any of the six proposed sites for casinos in Orange County (some extremely close to where I live). They did pick one in Sullivan County, which in my opinion was a far better choice.
Thought they were going to award four casino licenses - seems that only three were (Schenectady, Monticello in Sullivan County, and one in the Finger Lakes).
Imagine being able to bet on whether the raise double takeout being attempted will succeed.
But if all it took to be the next Vegas was a casino, Atlantic City wouldn’t be going down the tubes.
What makes you think we don’t?
The legislature had given the approval to issue four licenses and, as recently as a week ago, the talk was that four sites would be announced this week. But when the official announcement was made, only three sites were included.
A casino? In Schenectady? Jeez, you’ll Never get the NY State Assembly Members back to their districts now… :smack:
I still don’t understand why they couldn’t just give the license to Saratoga. Build another room for some table games and a poker room and boom, casino complete. Considering the traffic in that part of Schenectady already, I don’t really see the appeal of going there. I hate the whole State/Broadway/Erie/I-890 area every time I have to drive in it.
The thing I see with Atlantic City is that there’s nothing else to do in Atlantic City. Sure, the gambling gets people to Vegas, but Las Vegas has spent a couple decades now trying to position the city as a general vacation spot for families and people who aren’t too interested in gambling. I recently saw someone compare Atlantic City today to the Vegas of the 1970s (without the mob) and thought it was a decent comparison. I’ve never really considered going to Atlantic City, especially just to gamble as there are already a number of options. Can anyone give me a reason to go to Atlantic City?
Ok, how many commodes? Cos there was this time on the Strip I’d eaten a bad burrito and after I got finished assessing the toilets, I concluded Ali Baba’s had the finessed I’d ever seen.
That could be an issue the city councilors want to address.
I couldn’t tell by the article…would there be a poker room in Schenectady? I could stop by when I visit my mom in Burnt Hills! (I’ve been in casinos dozens of times but have never played slots or table games.)
They keep saying “Las Vegas-style”, which to me means table games and presumably at least a small poker room. While poker isn’t as big as it was a decade ago, I can’t imagine opening a casino without one.
I drove in it, and I agree. That area is tricky, to say the least.
I spent a weekend in Schnectady about twenty years ago. Nice little place, but it could use some livening up. Maybe a casino can do that.
What really makes Vegas to me is all the shows, the glitz, the history, and the legal prostitution. We have casinos all over the midwest for people to satisfy their gambling addictions.
