Nobody doesn’t like her!
She should have stuck with frozen cakes. (I can’t in good conscience support the creator of that monstrosity as first lady. We all have to put our foot down somewhere.)
Isn’t that Sara Lee?
Yes.
Is it just me, or is New York’s politics strange? It seems like it should be a liberal state, and yet it seems to be a strange combination of pro-Wall Street(understandable I guess) mixed with an almost authoritarian nanny statism.
I’m not a big Cuomo fan, but if you want accomplishments besides the SAFE act and revitalizing upstate, there’s gay marriage. Sure, that’s nationwide now, but Cuomo got that through the legislature in New York when it didn’t look possible. There’s free college tuition. There’s the property tax cap. As dumb an idea as I think it is, it’s popular. There’s the way the budgets come in on time and keep deficits down. I know you may say, well, that’s what’s supposed to happen, but it doesn’t tend to in New York. And it looks like the schism among Senate Democrats might be healed, giving them back the chamber, and Cuomo had a lot to do with that.
Plus, he actually got the Tappan Zee bridge rebuilt, after that had sat in limbo for decades.
Like most states, you’ve got your liberal urban areas and your conservative suburban/rural areas. NY is one of the geographically larger North East states, with lots of it falling under “upstate”. Remember what they often say about its neighbor, PA: Philly and Pittsburg, with a whole lot of Alabama in between.
Just the mention of his name seems to drive the Sandernistas batshit insane. While I generally will happily give the loudest of them the middle finger, I don’t think anyone wants a repeat of 2016. He might well run, but it’s for a potential Vice President slot or a cabinet job.

Possibly crooked? He’s a New York politician, the only question is how crooked is he?
Just after he got elected for the first time, contracts for the two biggest public sector unions, PEF and CSEA, were up for renewal. He took a really hard line with the negotiations, harder than usual, and it came pretty close to fairly massive layoffs of state workers before contracts were agreed to.
That soured the unions on Cuomo from the beginning of his administration.
There have been honest New York politicians, including his father.
Cuo mo 20 20? No.
You have to excuse Tripolar. He lives in Rhode Island where the entire population is corrupt. They teach it as a required course in the schools.
He’d probably be a good Senator or agency head. Not every competent politician is Presidential material, for various reasons.
I’d actually say competence is the most important quality. Ideology is for legislators. Most of what a President does is supposed to be nonpartisan. He literally runs the government. Cuomo is a Democrat and any Democratic President will sign Democratic legislation. If you want single payer and there’s Democratic majorities to pass it, no Democratic President is going to veto that shit. However, plenty of Democratic Presidents can screw up the implementation of such a big program and end up handing the country over to whoever is worse than Donald Trump.
Cuomo is a rabid anti-gunner, a losing issue in national elections. Even Obama was rather subdued about it during his campaigns. Hillary wasn’t and she lost to the likes of Trump. Cuomo would get hammered just on that issue alone.
If the Democrats would bail COMPLETELY on that one single issue they’d probably be able to get most of everything else they want. Luckily they’re too dumb to figure that out.
^ Agree. That’s why Jim Webb was my guy leading into the election. Too bad he was so underwhelming in the first debate and then dropped out immediately. With the proper coaching and the backing of the party, he would have squashed Trump in the general.
The problem is that a President of a given party is also expected to lead that party. The last several haven’t actually managed that additional job, but there is still that absurd expectation. Do you see Cuomo as a leader of the Democratic Party?
