My phone, a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE on Android 13 (most recent version Boost Mobile has put out for this phone), is driving me up the wall right now. I have two different apps, both installed from the Play Store, not doing what they’re supposed to.
Offender #1: Gmail has decided it’s not going to automatically haul in my messages, even when I’m on my home WiFi. I have to manually check, which can be a problem if I’m expecting something with any degree of urgency.
Offender #2: ToDo Reminder for some reason does not have audio. I’ve been using it for several days now to help me remember my junior cat’s alternate-days meds, and on both occasions the reminder has triggered, I find my phone’s volume setting all the way down, which is NOT how I would have left it. I do have permissions configured to allow audio for the notification.
Any suggestions? Other than switching to iDevices, I mean. I dislike Apple’s tendency to put the user in a playpen, and prefer Android’s level of control of MY device.
I got a case for my android recently. It has a cover, so I stopped getting photos of the inside my jeans pocket, however, now I keep hitting the volume buttons. And the notification sound keeps getting turned off. Then I have to hunt where that’s set.
The volume buttons can change 4 different sound sources, and which one gets changed depends ipon what’s happening
Is it the phone’s volume that’s down, or the app’s? My alarm app (alarm clock xtreme) has its own volume settings. In fact, each alarm that i set has its own volume, and the app gives me the option of overriding the phone’s volume setting.
It’s possible you accidentally toggled the volume low just for that alarm.
I don’t use the Gmail app, either, but my email app has a setting for how often to check.
Also Android has several different volumes (use … beneath the main volume control to get the them) https://imgur.com/gallery/enhpMMU
For Gmail, it went through a period for me when it would refuse to fetch on WiFi, I had to connect to phone Network for it to fetch emails (even though WiFi was working fine and other stuff worked)
I’ve been using an app called Volume Lock. For each of the six different kinds of volumes, you can set it to be locked to a specific level, or locked to a specific range, or unlocked as usual. When the volume is locked, it can’t be changed using the normal volume buttons. It’s been very helpful to me because my OnePlus phone has a stupid feature where pressing the power and volume up buttons simultaneously turns the ringer volume off. It’s very easy to do by accident, and as far as I can tell it cannot be disabled. The app does a good job, although it’s sometimes seems to just get randomly disabled and I have to check it occasionally to make sure it’s still active.
