Android phone and you tube.

I recently got an android phone. One of the selling points was it was you tube compatible. When I try to watch a video I get maybe 10 seconds of video then total freeze. Am I doing something wrong ? Did I get taken?

Are you watching Youtube through the browser or through the Android app? I find that streaming through the internet browser is vastly slower than using the app.

Secondly, are you on 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi? 3G is often not fast enough to fully stream video; that freezing is the video pausing while pre-loading more data. 4G and Wi-Fi should both be fast enough to handle it, so if you’re using one of those I’m not sure.

If you mean it’s a total freeze as in the app or phone locks up, then I’m not certain. That’d be a matter for tech support.

Make sure you’re using the YouTube app, and not the browser.

ETA: I see **Bosstone **beat me to it.

On top of the suggestions to use the Youtube app, I’d also make sure you are using the “official” Youtube app. Some phones come with video apps that are carrier-specific, which allow you to search Youtube videos along with local content or other services (usually to funnel you to carrier-provided paid content stores, or to feed ads into the app).

Go to the Market and download the official Youtube app if you’re unsure.

How do I know if I have 3g or 4g? I turned on wi-fi but that doesn’t seem to help.

Only a few models have 4G…if you tell us the model of your phone, I can tell you if it’s 4G capable, however, only certain major cities even have 4G towers, so that’s still no guarantee.

You had wifi turned on, but are you sure you were actually connected to a wifi hotspot?

Try this: load a youtube video, as soon as it starts, pause it, wait several minutes and see if it loads more (there is a red bar at the bottom of the video…a light, sort of transparent bar is how much is loaded, the dark, non-transparent red bar is how much of the video has played.)

If it does load more, then it’s just youtube loading slow…I’ve found that if a video stops playing because it hasn’t loaded enough, it will stay paused even when more of the video loads, so if one stops, wait bit, then tap the screen to un-pause it.
