Android PodCast and Android Auto

I’ve currently got a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and a '24 Subaru Outback with Android Auto installed from the factory.

I’ve tried two podcast players, Pocket Cast was one and I don’t remember the other. As soon as I start the car the screen says android detected and a podcast starts to play without my doing anything.

I want to listen to my Sirius radio, not a podcast. I pull my phone out and have to pause the podcast to listen to radio.

I’m trying to figure out have to fix this.

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

I have the same problem! I have a Galaxy A52 and 2020 Toyota Camry. I barely know how to start the podcast on my phone. I don’t want the car to automatically start with the (random!) podcast on my phone.

I do know how to stop the podcast playing by switching to Sirius/XM on the car.

The radio set to Sirius is my default setting. Until I played with podcast players I never had to touch a thing. Phone connected for calls and other phone apps, such as Waze.

I have removed the podcast app from the phone to avoid the annoyance.

In Pocket Casts (which I have) you can disable the autoplay setting.

Go to:

  • Profile
  • Settings (gear icon in upper right)
  • General
  • Scroll down to toggle autoplay

Hopefully that will work.

Other apps may be different.

Thanks, I’ll reinstall and give that a try.

You also might try this (not sure this is a Subaru but you might have something similar…jump to @57 seconds):

I’ll check that too. Thanks again.

Thanks! I’ll check out the settings in my Podcast player.

I just ordered a car with Android Auto so I’ll probably be back to this thread with a fresh set of vexations to seek advice about.

Huh. I use AntennaPod, Android Auto, Toyota, and a Galaxy phone, and it’s only ever happened once, when I was listening to the podcast just before shutting the car off. But I almost always listen to a podcast when I shut the car off,and it was only that once.

I made those changes and it seems to have worked. Thank you very much.

Turn off Bluetooth on your phone.

Isn’t that how Android Auto connects?
