ok. so i typed sotck instead of stock. not the biggest mistake i could have made at 2:30 in the morning, so shut the hell up. why do people pick on obvious typos, and not sentence structure, poor grammar, and the like?
and until the SDMB becomes strict in every sense of grammar and spelling, i will continue to write with no capitals as i always have.
and do you really think that when i check my e-mail, i want to waste time reading a letter that informs me of a typo i’ve made in a far-off message board?
if you like nitpicking so much, why the fuck do you have a colon and a parenthesis at the end of your sentence?
bye.

Cool it, it was advice, doesn’t have to be taken. People tend to appreciate good spelling and capitalisation and the like. But of course, it’s up to you how you want to come across.
Sometimes I really wonder what the fuck is wrong with some people. I thought it was a constructive thing to do, avoids clogging up threads with references to grammar/spelling etc etc. Chip on your shoulder methinks.
b) a possible problem would arise if you didn’t intervene
and think about it. why would i want to open my e-mail and find a letter telling me i made a typo on a message board? i realized it immediately after i posted. i had enough faith in the average SD user to figure out that sotck meant stock, escpecially since it was spelled properly in the topic.

He looks like he has been around too long to be another manifestation of the current troll infestation.
I wonder if he has been emailing everyone about typos and spelling mistakes.
This may be one of the best examples of why people do not have their e-mail address available.
Of course, maybe he was just THAT lonely. He could have been reaching out and trying to befriend you. After all, you owe this guy a huge debt of gratitude for saving you from everyone going ballistic.
Yep, emailed everyone.
Troll? Possibly, but never intentionally.
I can understand your point about not wanting to receive the email, fair enough, and accepted. I have seen the error of my ways. However, typos do happen (there’s certain to be one in this message, naturally), that’s a fact, but I still stand by my point which is that, IMVHO, good grammar and capitalisation are, in a sense, manners. They show that you’ve taken the time to post carefully and in a considerate manner. Maybe you heartily disagree. No problem.
i’m sure you will agree that this is not proper grammar.
so are you suggesting that i write you an e-mail informing you of this?
that would be ridiculous.
because message boards are limited to text, we compensate by developing our own styles to convey our emotions and emphasis… regardless of whether it is grammatically correct or not.
