Andromeda

“Captain Hunt is a human from Tarn Vedra.”

Hunt is from Tarn Vedra in the same way that the son of a Pentagon-based Army officer and a manager at Dep’t of Commerce headquarters is from Washington D.C… In one episode, Hunt says that his parents both worked for the Systems Commonwealth government (he states the jobs specifically, but I don’t remember now) on Tarn Vedra when they met, married, and had him.

“Is Earth then lost/destroyed/out in the boonies of the Commonwealth?”

Earth was one of the member worlds of the Commonwealth. After the Commonwealth collapsed, Earth got pasted by repeated Magog attacks and then fell under the control of the Nietzscheans. Harper grew up on Earth and his deep fear of Magog and hatred of Nietzscheans from his childhood has come up in the show multiple times.

“Are most of the humans from Tarn Vedra in the world of Andromeda?”

Don’t know. I would guess that the Systems Commonwealth had a free flow of commerce and transportation and that the member species moved around wherever work, education, etc. took them.

“Does Tarn Vedra also have an indigenous sentient species?”

Yep. The Vedrans invented slipstream drive and founded the Systems Commonwealth. I don’t think we’ve seen a Vedran on the show yet. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong.)

Hail to the king, baby!

That was my first thought when I saw Andormeda: It’s only a matter of time before Bruce Campbell shows up.

Onn a lighter and related note, Elizbeth Kirkindall had this to say about Kevin Sorbo.

Take off every .sig for great justice!!

Crappiest sci-fi show ever. It’s cheesy and the effects suck.

It’s odd how this show has grown on me as the season progressed. I was very surprised by the season finale, which seemed damn depressing. I have a couple questions:

  • I wonder if the Andromeda crew will ever get their hands on a Point Singularity weapon. That thing just kicked ass!

  • So when will Rommy dress up as a cheerleader as I predicted?

  • Did the Thran (or whatever the name of the insect race) re-join the Commonwealth? If not, anyone happen to remember the races that are part of the new Commonwealth?

  • How fast is slipstream compared to hyperspace or warp?

  • Does Beka still have that credit card from her “uncle” that has unlimited credit?

Yeah, it’s sad I remember some of these minor details. Dammit, Voyager just messed it all up for me.

The show’s grown on me. Sorbo does a fair “Riker” impersonation, and Tyr does a GREAT “Worf”. Although the aliens are pretty low-tech…the magog does indeed look like Splinter, the tail is horrible (although the rest of the rear view is nice), and the Nietzscheans, um, so how, exactly, are spikey forearms a survival trait?

I thought it was funny in the pilot that, in spite of all the interference and static that was causing Rommie’s picture and voice to get all messed up, her cleavage was always in perfect focus.

Ethilrist:

Speaking of which, the latest FHM magazine has a “Women of SciFi” cover feature, and on the inside there’s a glamour shot of Lexa Doig. Rrowr!
