I lost a few minutes due to channel flipping, and weather, so if someone could fill me in on what happened right after Gwen and Gun got to the party. I saw a guy sitting at a table scan thier invitation, then some alarm went off, and a bunch of guys surrounded them. Next thing I saw was Gun talking about watching a lot of samuri movies as a kid.
Also, near the end, what was the explination for Lorn having to meditate? I missed the 3 or 4 minutes leading up to when he said that he’d be ok in the morning and able to read her and her baby.
Great voice again by Lorn, sometimes the singing parts are just ok, but that was a great scene.
I liked the episode a ton. Trying to talk my wife into getting that disgustingly goth outfit Cordy was wearing while pregnant. So far we haven’t found it in any Maternity shops around here. Go figure.
One question though. At then end we saw Wes, Fred, Lorne, and Angel in the basement. Where was Connor? Didn’t anyone let him in on it, because, if they didn’t, that’s a pretty crappy thing to do to the kid. And I’d hate to have him come down and misconstrue everything.
Atrael: The “electronic signature” of their invite had gotten scrambled when Gwen got struck by lightning, and she was going to do a zappy on everyone, when Gunn greeted Morimoto in Japanese (with a bow), pretending they had met at a zoo benefit. Gunn gave the host a gift (Gwen’s jade tiger from earlier), and Morimoto waved them in. Gwen asked where Gunn had learned Japanese culture, and that’s when he brought up the samuri movies.
I’m not sure if this had been established, but I got the impression Lorne’s empathic abilities were given a long-term screw-up by Evil!Cordy’s fake re-souling spell. One of his demon contacts had given him a ritual and “dungeon master cloak” (nice reference to Dave Nabbit from season 1 ) to fix his abilities. Although, with the whole ambush thing at the end, who knows how much of that is true and how much was just mis-directing Cordy.
Connor is a huge dork. He’s not, shall we say, over-bright, is terribly naive, and is obviously in love with Cordy-- and everyone knows this. He is swayed enough by her direction that he was willing to go stake Angelus without anyone knowing, so he’s also been highly untrust-worthy lately. I’m sure the others assumed (and I think rightly) that if they told Connor, Connor would spill the beans to Cordy and that would be that. Moreover, until that moment I don’t think they knew that Cordy was evil, they only suspected. And really, maybe only Angel suspected/knew, and it’s not like Connor is inclined to believe anything Angel says at any time.
I loved, loved, loved the ending. Lorne rocks. Any episode where he sings is good, and this one was no exception.
I have a question, though: did I misconstrue something, or didn’t Gunn and Fred get back together earlier? I thought they had. But Gunn was sure, uh, gunning for Spandexia, so maybe I misunderstood. And I’m sure it was meant to be a good thing, but I was bothered that Gunn assumed that Gwen wanted her first experiences of touching to involve him. She even pushed him away after he kissed her, and he didn’t back off.
I think that Angel suspected that Cordy was somehow involved when Conner came to stake Angelus. Granted we never saw Conner fessing up that he was prompted by Cordy’s “fear” of Angelus, but I think Angel is bright enough to put two and two together, “Hmmm, Conner hangs out in Cordy’s room, Conner comes out and then tries to kill me, then Cordy shows up mysteriously pregnant.” Also Angelus knew that Cordelia was the only other person in the hotel as he was stalking her and Lilah. If Lilah show’s up dead and he didn’t do it, that leaves only one other person. Perhaps he smelled Lilah’s blood on the The Beast’s dagger and figured that if the dagger was a gift for his master, then the master must have been the one to do the deed. I could be giving Angel too much credit, though. Perhaps Lorn has had his mojo working longer than he let on. I guess we’ll find out next week.
I’m thinking that Wesley was able to read the writing that Angel was trying to recall, but was clever (and cool) enough to cover it with gibberish. Cordy clearly didn’t want him to read it.
Mmmm-mmm, yummy Gunn! More of him, please. Gwen really has a point that the Angel gang has been under-using him. The guy successfully ran his own vampire-slaying gang for years; you can’t do that without smarts, charisma, and a good eye for tactics.
And I loved the ending. See how nicely things can work out when we all talk to each other, Sunnydale Scoobies?
I think that Wes tricked Cordy by deliberately mistranslating the text, so as to lower her guard.
Gunn has a very gentle touch when he needs it, a requirement to being a good lover. Also, suave way he handled Japanese ettiquette, which can be taxing as martial art practice.

This hasn’t been well established: when Lorn walked in and said he finally figured out how to fix his empathic mojo, I said… eh? When was it announced that it was broken?
What they might be doing is saving that up for when they explain how they knew it was Cordy. Lorn assumed that his reading was screwed up when Angelus fooled him. But then the gang caught on, and someone researched what sort of spell it was that Cordy had them cast.
Still, would have been nice if at some point it had been announced that Lorn had doubts about his powers.
Mahaloth, my impression of the teaser was that the parts you mention were scenes from earlier episodes. The VO at that point was “Everything so far has culminated in this…”
Um, did any Canadians actually manage to see this episode? They played a Buffy episode on the NewVR instead of Angel on Tuesday and an Angel rerun on Space instead of the new one. What gives and how to I see this episode?
I was thinking though - didn’t Spandexia and Angel do a little lip lock before? I don’t think they did the deed, so Gunn was most certainly the first man to go where no man had ever gone before, but I think she has at least been kissed. I recall her being freaked she didn’t hurt him until she found out he was already dead.
Well I’m in Canada and saw it on Wednesday. It was on an hour later than usual after 2 episodes of Buffy. I usually watch it on Tuesday but was out and missed it so I don’t know if it ever aired that night.
FYI I have BellExpress West satellite so that might make a difference.
