"Angels in America" soundtrack

I dunno whether this thread has been hashed over before, but I just purchased the soundtrack to “Angels in America” and I have to say I liked it more than the miniseries itself. The use of soft, evocative instruments to coax out the emotions as opposed to pounding them out is amazing, soothing, and mournful by turn. Thomas Newman did excellent work here and I feel he should be very proud.

If you at all enjoy movie soundtracks, I highly recommend this one.

Thanks for the review, Priam. This CD has been in my Amazon Wish List since I found out that Newman composed the score a couple weeks ago. I haven’t seen the series, but I love Newman’s work, for exactly the reasons you describe. I’m looking forward to getting this one soon.

By the way, if you like Newman’s music, you might also give his scores for American Beauty or The Shawshank Redmeption a shot. They’re also excellent… though really, almost everything he does is great.
