Kroenke Sports and Entertainment says it has reached a deal to purchase the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno.
The company led by Stan Kroenke made the surprising announcement Tuesday, saying it expects to close the transaction in early 2027.
Kroenke’s company owns the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, Arsenal of the English Premier League, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids and SoFi Stadium, along with the large Hollywood Park campus around the multibillion-dollar Inglewood arena. The company has now added the Angels, whose turbulent 23-year tenure under Moreno’s ownership will finally come to an end.
Not an Angels fan, but if they could only manage 6 straight non-playoff seasons with Ohtani and Trout, I have skepticism they will go anywhere without those two stars even with new ownership. At least, for a while.
As a St. Louisan, I’d advise Angels fans to keep an eye on Kroenke real estate deals. I predict he’sll start by tanking the team, then whine about needing stadium improvements, then find any plan to be unacceptable, demand a new stadium built with public funds, refuse to negotiate in good faith, and the team will end up in a Kroenke owned complex in some place like Nashville or Charlotte.
And they’ll still try to convince people they’re an LA team. Oh, well. Somebody has to be the anchor of the American League. Can’t think of a better team for the job. Maybe the Dodgers can work up a Freeway Series every year against the A’s. Enough Angelenos drive to Vegas every weekend already.
