The Angels appreciation thread

What a fantastic series. I saw the Yankees get eliminated in the 1st round. I can now die a happy man.

I’ve been an Angel fan for several years.(although my 1st allegience is to the Dodgers) I think this is the best Angel team ever. I went to Saturday’s game. I was worried when the Yankees jumped out to 6-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings. But the Angels remained confident. It seemed that they believed in their ability to come back. No one gave up and they continued to fight at every at-bat.

This is great team, and they deserve a thread. So everybody chime in about how great the Angels are. Especially you Yankee fans! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Been an Angels fan for many years. It’s great to see the team eliminate a dynasty team.

Go Halos!

Anyone who beats the Yankees is all right with me. This will certainly lessen the sting if Oakland somehow fails to beat the Twinkies, and set up a kick-ass series if they do win.

Although I wonder what free agents Steinbrenner is going to sign now. Watch the Yankees payroll triple next year.

I bet George will climb out from under his big wet rock and scream bloody murder to the press.

The Angels have that 1988 Dodgers mojo going with Scoscia (mgr) and Hatcher (coach) around.

I reckon it’ll be the battle of the ‘feelgood’ stories - let’s just say lots of red-shirts in both parks for the World Series.

The Yankees are a cinch to get back in the playoffs next year. Steinbrenner mostly competes with the Mets and Red Sox. Wait for him to start squawking about how the series should all be best of sevens.

Bah as a dodger fan I look forward to the usual dodger stompings of the angels every season but im rooting or them to at least beat the yanks (actually the time the yanks beat the braves and the mets i rooted for the yanks ) And I must say the one angel dodger game I attended was pleasant and the stadium was nice

What I want to see is the big FU to the commish and see the twins win the series

Although a friend of mine wondered if the so called retraction threat was just to get the teams reved up and going like the twins are at the moment and never actually intended to happen

I think George will be trying to trim payroll like Arizona, LA and Boston to avoid the luxury tax burden. I’m hoping he’s reailzed that it wasn’t the money that brought the championships, and that he seriously overpaid for some long-term deals.

I want to see the A’s beat the Twinkies. I hate watching games on turf. I hate the high turf bounces.

I would like to see the Angels and Cards in the Series.

LOL – George signed the guy who pitched batting practice to the Angels in the 5th inning Saturday. Of course, his GM (Brian Cashman) will be held responsible.

I used to root for the Angels in another lifetime practically, back the 1960s when they had players like Jim Fregosi, Bobby Knoop, Jay Johnstone, Paul Schaal, and Jose Cardenal. But that hardly counts now; before this week, the last time I’d had any idea who was on the Angels was during their 1986 playoff appearance.

They look like one hell of a team. But mostly, I’m glad to see anyone beat the Yankees. And in time to put my Braves on broadcast TV tonight, too.

The Angels beat the Yankees? Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

I can watch baseball again. :stuck_out_tongue:

On vacation last week and had only seen a bit of game 2. I had not been keeping up with the playoffs … what better way to come home than to seeing the Yankees eliminated!! I knew they would I knew they would I knew they would! even when the angels have finished in the basement they are always able to do some damage to the Yankees!!!

I’ve been an Angel’s fan since DAY ONE at the Big A. It’s a little tough seeing a Dodger at the helm … but I think I’m soooo over that.

Bring on the next round!! I’m getting tired of watching braves baseball, Angels on national TV … WHOOO HOOOOO!

Red Sox fan here. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I was having a great weekend to begin with and managed to see the last 2 batters at a pretty empty bar/restaurant with a few stressed Yankee fans. After the last out, I turned to look at my friend outside and did the universal arms-overhead-victory-pump along with a lowkey “woohoo” as I started out the door (I live in Hartford, CT, so there are lots of Yankee fans and I’ve put up with lots of crap from lots of Yankee fans over the years). One of these idiot Yankee fans then said “What? You can’t cheer for the Yankees? What are you, a communist?” “No,” I answered. He then followed me out of the bar and yelled “COMMUNIST!” I started to make a rude gesture with my hand but decided to just ignore him–I did have a small scrap of sympathy, but give me a fucking break–4 championships in 6 years–get some perspective, pal. He then continued screaming “COMMUNIST! COMMUNIST!” as I walked down the street. Um, yeah, I’m a communist because I loathe the Yankees. Whatever. Anyway, go Angels!!!

I grew up in Orange County and many times Dad would say, “Let’s go to a ballgame!” Beer and peanuts for Dad, frozen bananas for Mom and me. Best memories were of a stadium vibrating from the crowd stamping their feet, yelling “Roooo-di!” for the Grand-Slam King (Joe Rudi). I remember a general relaxed feeling at the ballpark. Maybe it was because the Angels won enough games to keep up the interest, but never enough to be in contention. Or maybe it was because the fans didn’t have to wait in Chavez Ravine all night long to go home, unlike the Dodger fans. :stuck_out_tongue:

Go Halos!

All hail the mighty Angels! It’s about time American League stopped rolling over for the damn Yankees.

I wonder is FOX is going to demand a recount.

But what a day–Yankees eliminated, St Louis Cardinals sweep the Diamondbacks! Great news for baseball.

Way to go Angels!!! Now I won’t have to watch the dreaded Yankees in the Series this year.

And big bonus fashion points for going back to the logo of the “A” with the halo rather than the “A” with the wings.

I’m thrilled to see the Yankees lose, as a Red Sox fan. But I have to take issue with this “double fan” thing. That’s just not legal. Make up your mind. You get one team in each sport.

Go Angels!

After years of my Yankee friends rubbing it in my face I get bragging rights now! hee hee hee. All right!

However, I am bad luck to the angels. When I watch their games, they sart losing. I leave the room, they comeback. I return, they fall behind. I leave, they take the lead. Gotta work this out somehow…

NEVER DISCOUNT THE 2002 ANGELS!!!

deb does an ecstatic dance, she pounds her thunder sticks and shakes her rally monkey

I was there !! Both game at Anaheim stadium…

I am a mini-plan holder which makes me a season ticket holder. I go to over 25 Angels games a year. I have sat thru some really lousy games. I knew they were this good. In January my office mate was looking for what bet he was going to make for his weekend gambling on football, so I asked him what the odds of the Angels winning the World Series. It was 100:1. When he went to Vegas he got me a $10 bet at those odds as a late Christmas present. I am not a gambler, but have carried it all year long knowing that it represented my faith that these boys were good enough to do it this year. I LOVE Scoccia’s manager style and the team is made up of players who don’t worry about individual stats but rather team accomplishments.

Some of my friends couldn’t believe I had spent money for post season games. But how could I not, to get a chance at the experience I had this weekend, it was well worth it. But also I get my money back for any games the Angels don’t play (like game 3 for round 1). I was talking to a gentleman in the parking lot after Friday’s game and he said he was offered $260 for his ticket. He obviously had not sold and said he had waited too long for this moment.

FRIDAY’s GAME WAS THE FUNNEST EVER!!! 4 hours of constant adrinaline. Even when we gave the yankees a 5 run lead, the fans were LOUD and rooting for their team. We BELIEVED the Halos could come back. After the game everyone yelled at each other and stopped to talk. We were on a high never seen at Anaheim stadium before.

Saturday’s game was more like a regular season game, that was until the 5th inning, then it got lous. The thunder sticks were nonstop. Rally monkeys were waved throughout. The crowd was wild

One of the strangest things that happened was before Saturday’s game. There was a group of looked like Snow Geese flying over the stadium. I rarely see geese over LA/Orange County, but these weren’t even in the normal V formation. They were just floating above the stadium, like they were dancing. The lady behind us said that if they formed into an A she was going to leave.

Great games. I now await the next round, where of course I will be there!!! Then on to the World Series, I will be there!!!

Believe in the power of the Rally Monkey.
[/echo voice]

That Rally Monkey is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

And because they bumped off the Yanks, consider me an Angels fan for the rest of the post-season.

Happy

I look forward to seeing how Fox and ESPN commentators survive the rest of the playoffs without an excuse to spooge themselves over their beloved Yankees. Listening to them talk, you can almost believe that there are no other teams in baseball, much less an opponent in the game.
