Animagus Musings (Harry Potter Stuff)

No spoilers for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in this post, but there are plot points mentioned from Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire.

I’ve always been fascinated by animagus concept, and it got me wondering. If Harry, Ron, or Hermione were animagi, what would their forms be? Judging from Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs, I would venture a guess that one’s animagus form might have something to do with their “heart”. Leaving Moony out of the equation, Padfoot was a loyal friend (Man’s best friend), Wormtail was a rat, and Prongs was brave and noble (?). Professor McGonagall is a cat, but for the life of me, I can’t think of what they says about her. Rita Skeeter was a bug (pest).

So what do you think Harry, Ron, and Hermione would be? Any other characters you’d like to see as an Animagus? If you were an Animagus, what form do you think you would take?

Personally, I think Harry would be a lion, Hermione would be an owl, but I can’t really pin down what I think Ron would morph into. If I could be an Animagus, I would love to be an otter.

Harry is tricky. A snake would be possible or based on his Patronus: A large Deer/Elk?
I like Owl or Cat for Hermione.
Ron would be something slightly awkward and messed up that could mature into an animal with hidden Strengths. He is very faithful and braver than he thinks. Perhaps he would start as a smallish Reddish dog and become a Larger dog later.

Perhaps, though, the more thought I give it, the more I’m thinking something like a lemur or maybe an orangutan (with all that orange hair!)

That would qualify as funny, awkward and hidden strengths. Good Choice.

Here’s a question: Is the shape of the patronus always the animal one would turn into as an animagus? Apparently patronuses can change with moods (or at least Tonks’s can) so could people’s animagus forms change?

I’d like to see Rita Skeeter fend of a dementor with a tiny little beetle patronus, heh heh.

In that case, I think most of us would be rooting for the dementor

For Harry, she’s said he’ll never be an animagus, because, “energies are going to be concentrated elsewhere and he’s not going to have time to do that.”

For Hermione, she spoke about animagi in an interview, but seems to have gotten them confused with patroni:

Ron’s form, I don’t know. But if we’re going by the theory that a person’s Patronus and Animagus form is linked, then I’m guessing a terrier:

However, in spite of the popularity of the idea that the two are connected, there’s no canon to support it. Tonks’ Patronus form changed, and I doubt an Animagus form would.

As for Rita Skeeter, not sure I’ve mentioned it on this board (I’m getting my boards confused), but my favourite Skeeter-related moment is this:

This is funny for three reasons:[ul][li]It’s a bowl of beetles[/li][li]Scarab beetles are ancient Egyptian symbols of transformation[/li][li]Scarab beetles are also called dung beetles, which make thier living rolling up balls of excrement – a good description of Rita’s career.[/ul][/li]
I love Rowling’s ultra-subtle jokes. She has a really evil sense of humour, and you could read some of this stuff a dozen times and not catch all of it

…and for all my skills at picking up subtleties, I still hadn’t noticed that my roommate had signed back on… :smack:
