Gee, I hope this is in the right forum.
Do youse guys know of a good freeware/shareware/trial v. of a program I can download? I want to try my hand at making/editing an animated gif. I specifically don’t want to pay for it, because I’ll probably only use it once - if I decide I want to make a gajillion animated gifs, I will consider buying a program.
Anyone?
I have used Ulead GIF Animator in the past and it does the job OK. Sometimes it’s hard to get around but it does everything you need. You can get a free trial at www.download.com. I am not sure how many features are included in the free version but I do believe you can save a file.
I like GIF Construction Set Professional, it’s shareware, so you can download it to try it for free, and if you like it, you can register it for $20. I think all the functions work in the unregistered version though.
Wow, thanks for the quick replies!
Yup, GIF animator does all the basic stuff you need and it is free.
If you want even more bare-bones, try UnFREEz. It’s freel. You make the individual frames in another editor, and it puts them together for you.
When I was on Windows, I used it all the time. I actually preferred it to the more feature-rich programs, since I already had a good image editor. It’s free, and only a 19KB (yes, kilobytes) download.
Try the GIMP. Its about as free as you can get, and its also a good general purpose photo editor.
By the way, here is another free utility that works well in conjuction with a GIF animator:
Mihaov Image Resizer
It is a batch processor that allows you to resize a group of images all at once. It also batches conversions between BMP, GIF and JPG formats, as well as image rotation.
