Animated remakes of live-action feature films

I am watching the 2018 computer animated Grinch, and it doesn’t seem to be a remake of either the original Chuck Jones cartoon or the Jim Carrey live action movie.

The songs (for example ‘You’re a mean one Mr Grinch’ and ‘Welcome Christmas’ ) were composed for the 1966 cartoon movie, are used in all three movies, but are not from the source material, which is a story book, so the 2000 and 2018 movies definitely owe something to the 1966 version, if not to each other.

BTW I’m sorry if my comment upthread was in any way contributory to your decision to watch the 2018 Grinch movie. It’s not very good.

A year or two ago I caught a few minutes of this while channel-flipping. I had assumed it was just a regular episode of the TV show that was parodying scenes from the 1971 film; I didn’t realize it was a full-length adaptation. I’m fine with admitting this as a remake despite the inclusion of extra characters and scenes, since plenty of other (non-animated) remakes also do this. It’s not like I’m asking only for word-for-word, shot-for-shot reproductions of the source material.

Family Guy had a clip of Brokeback Mountain from the point of view of the horses, but it was just one of their cutaways.

It was produced by Chuck Jones and directed by Richard Williams (Who Framed Roger Rabbit). They based their animation style on period illustrations.
