We have noticed that a greater number of thread titles, and more and more post content, tending to an overly graphic nature recently. We are asking you to exercise more restraint in regards to topics and posts of this nature. We have no wish to emulate Penthouse’s Forum, and frankly, I’d like to think you people are brighter and more creative than that; you’ve no need to resort to Howard Stern’s level of shock to entertain, inform and amuse. I’m certain, even in MPSIMS, you have better and more intelligent things to discuss. Also, please keep in mind that some members may be offended by the more lewd.

I thought this about the zippers and balls heading. I noticed that one and thought, “Huh. Nice image in my head now.” And if it’s the thread title and not WITHIN the post, there’s no avoiding it-- you can’t say “well, you don’t have to read the thread.” We are always in mixed company here, people, children and the sensitive and delicate, for one reason or another, so play nice.

FTR, this is my 2000th post, and I think it’s a fine one to mark the milestone.
Quick question: does this include stuff like the “I like my women…” game? I’m finding it quite hilarious (I know, I am so very low-brow), but most of the posts are sort of graphic double-entendres. Just curious.
Dave, of course it’s about censorship. It is crystal clear that these boards have censorship rules, and indeed rely upon them. What the hell is a banning but censorship? IMHO, for a myriad of legal, social and administrative reasons, the SDMB can, does, and should censor.
I know that, and admitted as much in my post. The reason behind is what I question. Here’s an example:
1 Banning a poster who is a troll
2 Deleting a thread with explicit instructions on how to break the law
3 Editing a post which flagerently violated board rules, say, someone who calls another poster a “bloodsucking, goat felching, low life asshole” in a nice civil fora like MPSIMS
4 Changing a thread title because someone out there might be offended. Prime example, the thread “My date with Crunchy” was originally called " My open zipper, Crunchy’s balls and his big wet ass". Guess what? It was about a trip to a baseball game, where Tequila had problems with a broken zipper, Crunchy had baseballs, and both got wet asses after sitting in wet seats after a rain delay. The original title fit perfectly.
The first 3 are, MHO, fine, no, necessary for a smoothly running board. The 4th is PC bullshit.

Rant against censorship to your heart’s content, but do not confuse appeals to decorum with Political Correctness. While they certainly have much in common, they are not the same thing. Next we’ll be claiming that “previously owned” automobiles are “PC” when it is simply euphemistic advertising.
Fine. Who gets to set the “decorum”, you? me? Jerry Faldwell? Marlin Manson? the State of Tennessee School Board? George W Bush? Jesus Christ? Mickey Mouse? That’s why it’s all so stupid.
So I guess this means there will be no celebration of Frog Ball Day next year? Do I have to change my sig? Is this board wide or only here in MPSIMS? What’s the ruling on Pit titles and content?
Where exactly is the line drawn? A rule like this is entirely subjective. What one person considers lewd, antoher considers humorous. How can we follow a rule when we can’t even be sure how far is too far?

Just to clarify my position. I am not mad about this. I am simple noticing that, MHO, the mods may have gone a bit far. Threads called “I’m shaving my cunt”? sure, by all means change the title. But I’m just making the baby and bathwater point here. Don’t let the pendulum swing too far back. That’s all.
Maybe we oughta have a TMI forum so people can talk about testicles and hairy asses and herpes and constipation and slimy things and things that ooze and other stuff without fear of crossing anyone.
The problem with that idea being that then nobody would ever bother to visit the other forums.
Personally, I have no problem whatsoever with titles like “So I was shaving my cunt”. I don’t mind words when they aren’t being used to insult or defame someone. shrug Just my two cents.
