Annoying computer mouse behavior

I have a Logitec M510, and it’s been flawless except for one thing. I use it on the arm of my recliner, and occasionally it’ll slide down onto the seat and in doing so, the window will close. I’ve tried to simulate the situation by tapping it or lightly shaking it, but it won’t do it. A gentle slide onto the seat, and I have to reopen the window. I know, 1st world problem.

Did you install the Logitech mouse software package? It might give you access to whatever setting it is that allows that to happen, and allow you to turn it off.

Does pushing the scroll wheel left/right close the window? It’s usually programmable to do something. If it does that, go into the mouse setting in the control panel and change it…in fact, you should probably go there and take a look at that anyway, but that’s what my money is on.

ETA, check the buttons on the left side of it. I have mine (Logitech Performance MX) set to Navigate forwards and backwards in a browser, but it looks like yours might be to close the tab. Closing the last tab in a browser closes it.

I’ll second Joey P. I’ve got at least a dozen Logitech mice (mostly M305 and similar) and two dogs. Knocking a mouse around (or sitting on it) can make all sorts of weird things happen, but closing windows and going back are the most common. Logitech has a very good control panel to check the actions programmed for each button.

Might I add, and I am not a Logitech shill, that the Logitech M305 and related mice have the absolutely best ability to work on just about any surface at all? Good choice for you.

How is the M305 superior to the M510?
