Right, that was my first thought when it popped up in my Twitter feed…oh no, please NOT Kristen Bell…so I was really delighted to read it. And then to share that brief moment of alarm with others. ![]()
What’s sad is that it might hurt her career.
If you’re going to listen to only one pretty blonde actress about vaccines, choose Kristen Bell.
I’m going to go out of my way to watch anything she appears in and promote her career among those I know. This won’t have any effect I’m sure, but at least I’ll be on the right side here.
Not too likely I would think. How many directors, producers and casting people are in the anti-vaxx camp? I would think they were out numbered by rational people in their fields.
Your mistake is in counting bodies, so to speak, instead of determining influence.
I think that unlikely. The anti-vaccine lobby has no power in Hollywood.
I doubt it. She was in Frozen. She’s not going away anytime soon.
I would read it, but anytime I’ve clicked on that Huff bullshit, my internet experience comes to a grinding halt.
I’ll just take ya’lls word for it. But I liked her better with dark hair.
I think that essay will have a lot more impact than one saying ‘I never had the slightest doubt about vaccinating my kids.’ She’s describing her doubts and showing the process by which they were dispelled.
A lot of times, the message that comes across is ‘You should vaccinate because the medical system says so and they know more than you do.’ Vaccination becomes conflated with trusting the whole medical system, so people feel like they can’t vaccinate because they don’t have that trust. There are a lot of reasons not to blindly trust pharmaceutical companies and the medical system - it’s just that those reasons have zero bearing on vaccination. Kristen Bell doesn’t try to handwave them away; she acknowledges them and then explains why they’re irrelevant here. She makes it clear that it’s perfectly possible to have a lot of doubts about the overriding wisdom of pharmaceutical companies and doctors, and still vaccinate. That’s hugely valuable.
(sigh) …just browsed the Comments section…depressing, and I should know better.
