Another actress - Kristen Bell - sounds off about vaccines...

…in a blog post, and she makes perfect sense:

Vaccines Are Safe – And Facts Are Your Friends

I suspect that some of the people who follow her blogging might be exactly the same people who need this kind of reassurance/education.

I’ve said elsewhere here that I have a little crush on her, and this certainly doesn’t help things.

I should have expected nothing less from Veronica Mars.

Holy crap your headline scared me so hard.

I am shocked. Reading the thread title I expected another rant from an empty-headed actress. Instead she has produced a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out essay on the necessity of vaccines why the fear mongers are dead wrong. I really don’t know who she is but I am impressed.

Me too. She’s right about what she says–she’s the crunchy type you could see falling for this stuff. She clearly deals with anxiety–perfect for fear mongers to take advantage of.

Her essay is exactly they type of thing you are taught to do in response to a hostile audience. I think teachers could use it as a teaching example, even.

What a fantastic essay.

There’s also her Mary Poppins parody on the need to be paid a living wage, which is nicely done whether or not you agree with the message.

I was amused by the sexism inherent in identifying her as “mother, actress” right there below her name. I looked at other articles in their “healthy living” section and they never seemed to specify whether the male authors were fathers.

I wasn’t sure if that was being played straight or if that was a shot across Jenny “speaking as a mother…” McCarthy’s bow. I suspect the latter.

possibly also to head off the “you’re not a parent so your opinion doesn’t count” people.

I agree. Beautifully argued.

It is neither mundane nor pointless. Shouldn’t this thread be in another forum? Not sure which but not MPSIMS.

Yet one more reason to love Kristen Bell. I hope she is able to help spread the word far and wide.

Kristen Bell is awesome.

My question is, where does she stand when it comes to vaccinations for sloths?

Is my opinion of HuffPost completely out of date? I had an idea that they were pretty good about a lot of things but their support of woo and anti-vax made them look like idiots. Have they changed?

I think you should find out whether blonde bears qualify.

+1

She should give a class on popular science writing. She personalized it, kept it logical, addressed all the counterarguments, and cited everything.
Most of the comments were good, with a few loons of course. My favorite was the the anti-vaxer who gave her occupation as “Energy Healer.” There should be a law forbidding her to even say the word “science”.

Sounds like you need a good smudging.

Yup. Smudging. That’s a thing.

Excellent essay, sadly it probably won’t help.
