It seems to me that 4M viewers is still a shit-ton of people to be watching a show all at the same time. I realize that there are shows that stomp the hell out of that but 4,000,000 people is still 4,000,000 people no matter how you cut it.
Why is this considered a failure to the point of cancelling a show?
For one thing, it’s an expensive show to produce (supposedly $2 million per episode). Second, it’s not a matter of whether four million is a lot of viewers, but rather whether they might get more with something else.
You can pretty much put a newsmagazine show (cheapest to produce) and get 4 million viewers.
Also, does anyone know if Fox owns AD? Or does Imagine Entertainment own it? That would be a big factor in Fox’s willingness to keep the show going even longer. If they get the whole pie on syndication and DVD sales, they have a bigger interest in getting more episodes.
