Another banning

Oh dear. peculiar hailstone appears to be banned. While the kid didn’t seem to know which forums to place his or her questions in, she or he seemed pretty interesting to me. May I ask what happened to trigger a banning?

If you have a question about bannings / banned users, the staff prefer that you e-mail a staff member (administrator or moderator) rather than asking publicly on the board.

Ahhh, what the hell?

I don’t have any questions. Just wanted to say that I really liked the guy for some reason.

I can’t remember the thread (in GQ or GD), peculiar hailstone explicitly stated that he/she would continue to reregister under new names/emails to keep the trial membership. I suspect that’s why.

He was ignorant of the particular rule in question, though, and seemed amenable to more acceptable solutions. I thought that was clear.

Nevertheless, I’ll email a mod.

I’m confused… Peculiar Hailstone’s name doesn’t reflect BANNED for me, just says Guest… ?

I saw “BANNED” under ph’s name earlier today, but now I also see “Guest”; perhaps TPTB had a change of heart?

We did.

Sweet.

It’s probably silly, but for some reason, bannings bum me out a bit these days. I don’t really feel like we’re getting new people now, just losing old ones.

If you check out this link, you’ll see that as of May 15 there’ve been about 50 new members who’ve signed up at $14.95.

Will this rate continue?

Urm, well, that information is not currently available.

Nice, and 3700 charter members.

/end hijack

What’s the subscription rate up to now? $14.95?, (Oh Ed, couldn’t you just have made it $15? Oh, I know, Cec want’s us to practice our math. OK)

The subscription rate is good though. It will tend to keep casual slammers out, or at least limit them to a month, and more serious dopers will stay.

What we lose in quantity, we gain in quality.

The Master on Why do prices end in .99? Still something of a riddle.

nope, not banned yet, but my guest membership runs out today I think. Either way, I’m off to Alaska’s wonderful wilderness for a few months, and am gonna sign up when I get home again. I’ll try to read everything first ( I’ve finally surfed the Pit and see how a little bit of laziness or misunderstanding can get someone hated by the masses), and bad-mood, late-night drunkeness is not conducive to the witty reparte that we all enjoy. Ah, how soon we learn. This place is just so massive, that figuring all this out takes time. I would suggest that those who get pissed off quick and run away angry, take a little breather, and then they’ll appreciate the board upon return. And, for the record, I wasn’t saying that I would try to get back in under a different email address, just saying that in my computer knowledge (or lack thereof), it would be easy to do just that. See ya in August…but maybe not in the pit.

Here’s some more recent data.

If you encounter someone there in the next two weeks or so, someone who appears to be having a good time, but who looks like he’s suffering from SDMB withdrawal syndrome nonetheless, that’ll be me.

What’s SDMB withdrawal like? What are it’s symptoms?

I imagine something like Tourette’s, only instead of obscenities there are random outbursts of ‘Hi Opal!’ and ‘I burning your dog’.

Ummm…you’re not thinking of staying, are you? Just coming up to make your fortune and then leave, is it? Damned opportunists!

By the way…the bears are like tame dogs and love to be petted.

Actually, some of it is a lot like Tourette’s. There’s also the tendency to keep looking for a “reply” button on newspaper and magazine articles.

In the wilderness (I’m heading for ANWR), it gets even weirder. You figure that, since there are no mods around, you can answer your fellow rafters’ political views with cries of “drooling idiot,” and “fucking cretin,” forgetting that the rules of behavior IRL are even more constraining than those on the SDMB.

Whew! I’m glad I’m not being obnoxious or they’d also have to b
