The James Taylor song “Only a Dream in Rio” is credited to James Taylor and J. Maraniss. Anyone know Maraniss’s full name?
From my Google search, J. Maraniss is listed almost universally as “Translation”, and for “Only A Dream In Rio” as “Brazilian Translation.” So apparently not so much “composer” as “specialty lyricist”.
No cites for the full name, though.
His full name is James Maraniss. He is a professor at Amherst College. He translated part of the song into Portuguese, the language in which that part is sung.
