This really needs to happen more often.
Sadly, it leads directly to a lawsuit. 'Sides, in my neck of the woods at least, it would be apt to happen over things like my friend “Teresa,” a schoolteacher, getting outed as a lesbian.
Funny, I didn’t think of that but we sure get above average bad press over someone’s stupidity don’t we?
At the very least hat teacher needs to apologize to her entire class and that student specifically. In fact, an assembly might be called for but I don’t expect that. I hope they do insist on an apology, perhaps a verbal, and then a written one. That was an incredibly thoughtless, cruel, and stupid thing for anyone top do, much less someone who chose to teach.
I dunno, but I hear Mohammed on a Pita with Hummus is delicious.
So in your little world all Muslims are grieving about Bin Ladin?
(emphasis added)
Maybe you should stop wearing a turban then.
No, no, no! They have Lord Voldemort’s face on the backs of their heads, and the turban is hiding it! He’d get PISSED if they tried to put bombs in the turbans, too.
In my part of the world, no Muslims are.
I don’t think this is an acceptable solution.
I think you’re forgetting a key component to what I believe the teacher tried to do. That is that teenagers are vile shits (Not much different from adults in that way.) who will turn on each other like sharks in a feeding frenzy with the slightest encouragement. When an authority figure chooses to single out a student for public humiliation that is a sign to the class that this person is fair game. It is an open invitation for the class to join in the humiliation and effort to make the chosen target feel completely worthless and ostracized.
Which doesn’t begin to mention just how fucking vile it is for a teacher to choose to rag on someone whom he or she believes to be unable to respond to their mocking.
In this case, the teacher misjudged his students, and they rejected the example he tried to present to them. That is not how I’d expect the majority of similar situations to work out. It’s far more common in my experience for the students to take such implied permissions to the limit.
No one who uses their position of authority in this manner is fit to be around adolescents. He needs to be fired.
This blogger has a … different … take on this story.
Jesus Christ on a cracker, people need to treat other people’s religions with respect.
And…scene…
Poe’s Law has never applied harder.
I really wish you’d included a fucking idiot warning with that link.
It aint funny when the satirist tries too hard and fails to deliver the appropriate level of crazyness. Like here.
With one addition, as IvoryTowerDenizen says. Being Muslim is bad in her eyes. So in her eyes, she has automatically assumed I am Muslim and a terrorist based on nothing more than her ignorance.
And it is rude. I’m American. My parents brought me 7,000 miles to be here. I took citizenship vows. If there was a war between the US and India I’d be sad but there wouldn’t even be a moment’s hesitation in which side I’d fight on. And LOTS and LOTS of people in the US are “other” than Christian, but so many Christians never seem to get it.
It’s just that fucking “us” vs. “them” mentality and I am automatically grouped in the “them” solely because of my skin tone.
And goddamnit GIRLS DON’T WEAR TURBANS except in plays sometimes!
Well, you ARE internet friends with a notorious pretend villain. That’s suspicious. And at least now you have a datapoint about her: that she’s a hateful twit. It’s useful to know where those are.
Do that many male Muslims wear turbans? Keffiyehs, skullcaps, yes, but turbans?
