When you see an educator with that kind of pedagogical talent and wisdom, you just have to stop and wonder how the teacher survived without being fired already. Who knows? Maybe this was the first blip in an otherwise sterling career.
I’ve seen worse while at LAUSD. Not only with the proselytizing* to the students but with the personal insults such as during a staff meeting a teacher showing the faked photo of Bush reading a book upside down and announcing that anyone who is a Republican is as retarded as the President. I think they assumed every teacher is a Democrat.
*If you listen to the Radical Right (Limbaugh, Beck) rant against how The Left indoctrinates kids to be Communist it sounds absolutely ridiculous until you see that one wacko teacher that does exactly that.
It’s a shame everyone on who is not a dyed in the wool Republican agrees with that teacher and Obama intends to make it a law that only shirts with the names of Democratic candidates can be worn in schools. There’s no way this is a singular case of a nitwit who doesn’t represent the mainstream of Democratic politics.
And of course, the other side doesn’t do anything like that at all which is why we should be civil to them. They’d have to do something really egregious like put out ads with their opponents in crosshairs to be as bad as this.
Sorry way, way, too much room for nonsense to happen, otherwise. Either show me the shirt, so I can decide for myself, who was out of line, or don’t run the damn story, I say.
It was a hysterical overreaction from the teacher. If the school has no policy about political messages on t-shirts, then this teacher should hold her water in front of the student and complain to the Admins to change their policy.
Actually it could all be done neutrally. A story about a teacher who told a kid to lose a shirt with a presidential candidate’s name on it. No need to mention the candidate unless the story is meant to be partisan rabble rousing instead of an actual news story. No one is innocent in this kind of nonsense.
If you click the link right there in the OP, you’ll see the shirt - as part of the damn story. It’s the picture on the linked video, and it’s displayed pretty thoroughly if you watch the video. Utterly normal “Romney/Ryan America’s Comeback Team” shirt - not even a picture on it.
If the school has a policy against kids wearing shirts with a candidate’s name or face on them, or even against shirts with anything political on them, I can understand a teacher enforcing the policy. If there is no such policy, then the teacher is completely out of line making policy on her own, especially if she is only objecting to one candidate.
Her comments, as reported, sound like something that she should be censured for. I’m willing to leave that to the school board. It’s fitting that she appologized.
This isn’t a matter of which candidate I like, it’s about what’s appropriate in a school. Either candidate/political shirts are allowed or they’re not.
This wouldn’t fit in the ‘Stupid liberal idea of the day’ thread** Bricker**? Or are you just so proud that you finally have real evidence of a liberal mistake you’d like to showcase it?
