Another dead dog thread

Just put a deposit down on a puppy which we will pick up on 3/6. We are giddy as children - tossing possible names back and forth.

Such a challenge trying to identify a puppy that will mature into the type of companion you just lost. Dogs live way too long to make a mistake.

Just this morning I told my wife we need to change our mindsets to cherish these dog-free days, before we have to go thru training a new pup!

Yes, of course I’ll post pics.

Oh boy!
You know the reason puppies are so cute…they have to be, to keep you from murdering them. My stepson just got two puppies and his wife is giving birth in May…I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes!
Good luck with the newbie.

We’ve said similar things about why babies learn to smile at 2-3 months - out of self-preservation!

We were thinking back about our 3 past dogs - all goldens/golden mixes, and the times in our lives that we had him.
-3 dogs ago, Bowser, was a dog I got in college, before I met my wife. He was a totally laid back “quad dog” who was comfortable ANYWHERE, and lasted through all 3 of our kids’ births.
-Our second dog, Daisy, we got when our youngest was 6 yrs old. We didn’t want to deal w/ a really young kid and a puppy at the same time. So she was largely our dog when we had kids.
-Our last dog, Buster, we got when my youngest was a HS senior. So he, in large part, became our “empty nest” dog. As he aged, we became 3 supremely compatible “old dogs” together.

We are getting this guy at a time that all of our kids are out of the house and on their own. It will be entirely up to the 2 of us how we shape the dog and our lives w/ him. Hopefully, he’ll take us well into retirement. He’s a mini goldendoodle. We are looking forward to the smaller size and less hair than our past 3. We have the time and resources to dedicate to the dog, and are looking forward to a lot of road trips to dog-friendly hiking destinations.

An exciting prospect! Hopefully it will keep us young, rather than aging us prematurely!

So happy for you and the pup. I am sure he/she will be happy in your home.

My friends have a standard goldie, she is very expressive. Almost human.

Congratulations!

I hope he does great for you, Dins. My sister’s heart’s desire is a goldendoodle. I would help her find one, but I don’t think she’s a good pet owner. If she does get one, it’ll be without my help.

Congratulations to both the humans and the puppy!

Meet Lincoln!

Hope the coding works - I’m an idiot about manipulating photos and such.

Got him last Friday - a 7 week old goldendoodle. Should max out at 25-35 pounds.

What a beauty, Dinsdale!

Nice looking dog!

I’ve seen GoldenDoodle adults that were 35 pounds and others that were 70 pounds. Keep your fingers crossed!

Nice! My neighbor has two of them, as friendly and entergetic as you could hope for. Many happy years together.

They seem to be doing a better job of “standardizing” these mutts. This guy’s mom was 30#, and dad was 25# - so it would be pretty surprising if he were much bigger.

How sweet!

How gorgeous. May you all have many years together.
